Subject: Update the Cheating FAQ

You can't change other people, you can only change yourself. In other words, you must BE the change you wish to see in the world.

So many people try to justify themselves regarding Superjumps and button combos by saying that it's not on the FAQ I think it's time it was updated. Would it be too terribly hard to type in a few lines regarding these "glitches" (for lack of a better term) Naming these things outright as cheating would stop a number of folks I think. I know there are going to be people posting behind me trying to justify the use of these things but if Bungie is really calling them cheating then Bungie should keep that FAQ updated simply because folks reference it all the time. Why leave loop holes? Why not just put it in writing?

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

Oddly enough, I'm actually for this. There were so many cases where people would look and see that the super bouncing glitch was not bannable, and would try to cite that as an argument. I think now it should be officially listed so considering it is a manipulation of a glitch to gain an advantage, which from the last time I read the Xbox Live ToU is a violation of the contract.

Yes. I'm tired of hearing the idiots trying to justify BxR and Superjumping as legit in matchmaking. They say "Well, it's not in the rules, so it isn't cheating!" They won't listen to how I try to explain that Ninja's post was more current than the FAQ, so it overrides it, but they don't listen. So integrating it into the current FAQ would be nice.

Ahh a couple supporters. I'll have to spread the word by word of mouth i think to really get this topic off the ground. Look forward to more posts regarding this guys, hopfully we'll make a difference.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

I think Superbouncing is cheating and people shouldn' really rely on a book to tell them what is and what is not unfair. The people who bounce in matchmaking most likely will continue even if their convenient excuse is gone.

They can always claim ignorance. I, for one, will believe them.

You've got a point Napo. Ignorance is bliss but not to the banhammer. Once it's written I think most legit players and those that strive to be so will stop doing it. The ones that continue are the ones this game/ LIVE doesn't need. People either respect the rules or they're gone. The debate rages on...

It all comes down to who makes the rules. making rules means nothing if people don't know them. How can people know the rules if they're not posted clearly? These glitches and such shouldn't even BE debatable.

i guess it's up to the proud posters of b.net to set an example

unfortunately you can lead a grunt to methane, but you can't make him breathe?
(sorry about the crazy cliche-adaptation)

I'm all in for it! How hard could it be to change the FAQ?

Frankly, all I think needs to be done is that a small line is added at the bottom stating that anything that is against the ToU is against Bungie policy, with perhaps a link to the ToU.

I'd prefer to be a bit more optimistic and think that a few people would at least think twice about defending it.

I would assume it's not that difficult to do (typing a sentence or two and adding a link, as per my suggestion), though I have no idea how hard things are for this site. But if it doesn't take that long, and is intended to do good, I don't see how it could hurt, other than perhaps a couple of wasted minutes.

"I pledge to punch all switches, to never shoot where I could use grenades, to admit the existence of no level except Total Carnage, to never use caps lock as my "run" key, and to never, ever, leave a single BoB alive."

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

Recon is right...everytime I get Standbyed, or when people Superjump, etc...I always make sure to tell them that Bungie declares that cheating. And most of them say "Bungie doesn't have it on their site"...so yes Cheaters check this site. But even if it did have a legally buffed up FAQ section, cheaters wouldn't care. They would still cheat.

The only thing we can really do is play fair, play hard, and try to set an example to people who may not visit B.net It really hurts me when someone with a b.net name is a jerk or cheats. I always think.. "Man this is killin My fav forums rep...

The masses always emulate so, just control yourself and hope... and add that extra clause about the ToU.

I don't know of any cheats.Never heard of "superjump" or "B&R Combo"

  • 07.07.2006 8:32 PM PDT

Well, instead of listing forms of cheating in the FAQ, you simply deliver a clear-cut statement that surmises the entity of cheating.

Personally, I think exploiting glitches such as Super Jumping using the BxR glitch or anything like that is considered cheating. It wasn't meant to be in the game, therefore it's outside of the system. It's BS that glitches are justified by the phrase "anybody can do it, so it's not cheating". It's like saying that modifying the maps isn't cheating because anybody can do it. (and yeah, anybody can do it.)

The idea of a clear and up-to-date statement is not an unreasonable request.

The problem is that no matter how well-intended and how clearly worded such a document was, people will take it apart, bit-by-bit until they have it twisted to support their own views and activities.

Unless it was written by a lawyer (or a team of them), and then no one but a few people would understand it. And those who decide to cheat would simply do what they already do, completely disregard it.

That, after all, is what cheaters (and their ilk) do. Ignore common sense and clearly worded warnings, all the while chanting like Eric Cartman, "Whateva! Whateva! I do what I want!"

Yes they might but then its alot better than what is happening now. And if they insist on cheating and saying it is right then they can enjoy their ticket to Banville. Its their fault for ignoring warnings.

I don't really know if anyone even goes into this part of the forum anymore because it is so old. but this is the only place that i felt like looking for that supported what i was thinking about. Anyway since so many people use super jumps now. and so many other people comeplain about people doing things that they dont know how to do that other people can do. however these "super jumps" seme like they were put there on purpose by bungie. maby they made superjumps so that they would have an advantage over players that actually made it up to there seemingly impossible to reach level. Now however almost every one knows about superjumps now and it is so common how could anyone call it cheating. I'ts only cheating if you don't know how to do it. However i completly agree with the person who started this forum too many people know how to do a superjump and too many people don't know how to do them. It would be interesting though to see superjumps used as a strategic manuver in team games though. and if it is not to much to ask bungie really should consider adding superjumps to the site. and explaining them. every step how to. since it has grown into such a big problem it should be fixed somehow.
