What you think? I never read the book but I thought it was stupid how the eagles came and rescued them why couldn't they have ridden eagles from the start? Also I thought they would fight the dragon but it stopped before they fought :p

I don't think it is the eagles job to just ferry everyone across middle earth.

It's part of a planned trilogy. And in regards to the quality of the film, it's nowhere near the magic of LOTR.

Eagles aren't -blam!- taxis. They flew them away because they were in danger and noticed the forest fire.

Very good and just as good as Fellowship of the Ring.

The Hobbit can only be fairly compared to Fellowship because The Hobbit is an exposition movie that intends to lay the groundwork for the rest of the trilogy while still being very good on its own. The Hobbit accomplishes this just as strongly as Fellowship of the Ring.

Edit: The Eagles are not taxis and have been shown usually only appear when our heroes are in danger.

This is sadly true. I for one agree with the complaints of those of too much CGI... It was overdone. There were cool parts in the movie and it was good, but that's it. It wasn't shining excellence that the previous three were and they missed so much potential at so many moments.

I'm not so good with advice...Can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

I enjoyed it. However, i didnt like how silly it was. Compared to LoTR, the Hobbit seemed like a comedy. I guess thats how they distinguish it as a separate series.

My friend actually got mad at someone in the theater when they said exactly that.

The guy was asking why the eagles didn't take them all the way to the mountain (in a voice loud enough for the whole theater to hear) and my friend yelled at him "The eagles aren't -blam!- Taxis dude!"

Sounded like such a hippy.

The book is a children's book, I think people forget that. It's supposed to be silly and juvenile.
