Im thinking of joining after I graduate. Ive read up on some of the requirements on their website and I should be in good standing to join. Im going for Infantry btw.

My main concerns are locations. I live in California near San Diego and the Army at Fort Benning seems far away.

Any advice?

Im 17 btw.

How much do you know about the military, have you ever handled a rifle, do you know any specs about any weapons, are you up to par on military strategy, have you ever gone hunting, are you decently intelligent, are you constantly alert and paranoid and do you think of plans and strategies wherever you go?

If yes to all or most of the above, you should be fine. Not that you need most of that, but it'd be helpful.

Either go for officer, or join the combat engineers.
An enlisted man in the infantry, can't get a new job after they leave so easily. whereas the combat engineers will have companies lining up to hire you (you also see as much "action" as the infantry if you're afraid of sitting around on a base all day. you seem like you don't know to much about what your doing however (I'm not trying to insult you) I would advise that you do constant research on all the options in front of you, including you civilian options, before you make this decision.

Don't join the army, get a job and help your country.

This. Or have fun being a mercenary for our government.

Screw Civilian life!!!

YOLO infantry FTW!

The army wont always be there for you, Even if you stay in as long as you can you get "kicked out" 42 (unless you're a high ranking officer) and your army pension wont last, from then 'till death. you'll need skills for when you get out.

Maybe I will never be
All the things that I wanna be
But now is not the time to cry
Now's the time to find out why
I think you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

Why go over seas to get shot at when you can stay in your own country and get shot at?

I hope to god that he doesn't get in. people should join the service with protection of the country in mind (At least, that's how it is with the british army), this guy just seems like he has a bloodlust, and wants to kill people. he seems like a danger to the middle eastern civillians.

I've been playing Halo since 2002. My earliest memories include hiding at the shotgun window on Damnation and killing my dad with grenades while playing co-op on Pillar of Autumn.

Don't join. It's not really like Battlefield 3, despite what you believe.

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

Please allow me to introduce Myself
I'm a man of wealth and taste
I've been around for a long, long year
Stole many a man's soul and faith

What a small world...

I live in La Jolla, I was an infantryman (My rank was E-4). My younger bother is currently an O-2 MP who teaches ROTC at one of the universities here. (I'm not gonna say which)

What would you like to know, as I've done that very flight.

Go to college, join ROTC, become an officer.

This. Exactly this. NCOs don't make nearly as much bank and cannot get even close as high up. You also get free college and when you do your time, you're not a grunt. ROTC is a great program if you want to join the military.

I cant speak for him, but if some of the boys join the army because they think its like BF3 or cod, damn... You cant sit on a -blam!- station for hours, days or months and not doing anything, and maybe for your whole period while your out in the field, you can maybe be in a battle wich is maybe 5 mins long?

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

"Do you like guns, have no education and were generally awful in school? Join the army!"

While I do like guns, I have a 4 year college education in Engineering and a high paying job in the defense industry, and I still have plans to join the army. What part of your post is:

A.) In any way respectful of anybody ever.
B.) Correct in any way what-so-ever.
