Fear was stupid cheap on the Steam sale the other day and while looking at it I had the wonderful idea of filming myself playing it just so I could watch my (hopefully hilarious) reactions.

I'm planning on doing roughly 10 minute segments (I've already finished 2). I'm just going to say it, I don't like this game and I regret having even thought of this "hilarious" idea.

Has anyone else beaten F.E.A.R.? (I'm talking about the first game by the way) Did you enjoy it, did you hate it? How scary does it get, should I invest in adult diapers?

We all wear masks and the time comes when we cannot remove them without removing our own skin.

Ranked 2nd in the world for that game before I stopped playing it.
F.E.A.R 2 sucks and F.3.A.R is fun with a friend.

''I want people to be sincere; a man of honor shouldn't speak a single word that doesn't come straight from his heart. ''

The first ones are, the third, not so much.

Played all of them; I can't find anything scary when you can slow down time and shoot the scary things in the face with a shotgun.

I jumped ship with that game after this scene and returned it straight away.

  • 01.03.2013 2:14 AM PDT

I didn't really like the first one when I bought it but I got through it. I like the second one better and I haven't played the third and I don't remember them being scary.

20 minutes is practically level 1 and part of level 2. I find it hard to believe you got bored of it so quickly. If it was too scary I don't blame you, the beginning is a little freaky if you're brand new to the series like me.

HHHNNG! I don't know what will be scarier, watching that and expecting it to happen or having no idea its coming...

Meh, I didn't find it that scary.

The Game

I was disappointed by the lack of scary in that game.

I think this game might drive me to tears out of pure terror. I am not looking forward to this. I want all of my emotions to be original for the video so I'm not going to watch that video.

Why is it so scary? You never actually fight anything supernatural except at the very end, and the enemies are just generic soldiers that are easy to kill.

Is it the little girl? Hell, she doesn't even want to hurt you...per se...

Because its just scary. I haven't been hardened against this stuff like most people because I never watch horror movies. I've read scary stories (which are honestly completely different than horror movies or games) but games and movies rely on other methods to scare you that books can't do, like jump scares for example. And I'm just not used to that.

Presentation is also another key factor, and so far Fear is doing great in that respect.

Horror games rely on atmosphere.
OP, if you want scary play; White Day, Fatal Frame 1/2, Silent Hill 2.

I don't think I could physically make myself play those. Fear will probably be the last scary game I'll play.

I play a lot of horror games because I love scaring myself. I think fear is one of the strongest emotions, I love feeling it. Although it's difficult to find a decent one now. I'm extremely sad the survival horror genre is dying and being overtaken by the action horror genre. The only survival horror game released recently was Amnesia, but I didn't find it that scary. I hope the sequel does better.

I forgot to mention a horror game, Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem.

Well I'm a wimp and watched Tobuscus play Amnesia. It was still terrifying to watch. I didn't think I could ever find a Lets Play scary until then.

FEAR does have a pretty cool atmosphere. The random flickering lights and slamming doors get a bit old though.

I'm kinda annoyed by the "generic" horror themes. You know the situation, you walk up to a door and someone runs past. You look around the corner and they're gone. I hate that. I wish they'd try to mix it up a bit. Like, having the -blam!- monster right there in your face as you turn the corner. That'd scare the -blam!- out of me.

When the zombies arrive-i'll be there to pick up the pieces.

Winner of the Xforgery Haloween competition 2009

I never played fear until a work college recommended it to me early last year. picked it up for like £2.99.

Best £2.99 i ever spent, but that game messed me up. especially when i played late at night, all alone, with surround sound turtle beaches...

But fantastic game. I bought the second, and that was amazing, but not quite as scary, but then i stopped playing the series. Need to buy the reborn dlc and fear 3.

Remember those times when we all had something better to be doing, but didn't do it? Those were good times. Gooood times

Fear 1 is great, 2 is a lot less scary(but just as twisted), 3 gets toned a lot for arcade/co op purposes
Also, obligatory

I've played all 3 and I think the first one was the best in my opinion. It had some really good scary moments but I wouldn't say the game itself was scary. Funny to see now though how bad the graphics are compared to today's games and I think that makes it a lot less scary because it takes you out of the immersion.

Two makes there more than speakers.

I actually found that game pretty funny.
