To play or not to play....

I just found this paragraph http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forerunners_%28Halo%29

Other types of Forerunner relics are mentioned in the two novels "Halo: The Fall of Reach" and "Halo: First Strike". These include a rock embedded with crystals apparently describing stellar coordinates for several solar systems (Epsilon Eridani, the system containing Reach; Sol system, containing Earth; and Threshold system, containing the Alpha Halo), and a mysterious crystal-shaped object seemingly capable of warping spacetime. The latter relic, however, was destroyed in First Strike, by a Marine blowing it up with C4 high-explosive.

I am particularly interested in this line "crystal-shaped object seemingly capable of warping spacetime". This seems to indicate that the forerunners had technology that capable of doing exactly that which this crystal did.

I just found it odd. I never really liked the time travel ideas about Halo but this seemingly fact seems to indicate that it is at least possible. Though I suspect that the warping is something to do with space travel rather than time travel.

This pretty much says everything about Nylund, "crystal shaped object"?

Crystals come in all shapes, sizes and colours. They are opaque, transluscent and transparent.

His total failure to grasp science boggles the mind and yet people assume he isn't pulling things out of his buttocks.
