Subject: (SPOILERS)What did the Island Represent in the Life of Pi

I understand that Pi's story was made up, and he used many things as representations of what really happend, like the Hyenea=The Chef, The Zebra=wounded sailor, the Monkey=his mom and the Tiger= his survival instinct, but what did the carnivorous island represent? insanity maybe?

Also, lets discuss the movie.
