If this happens I might just have to go exclusively to PC.

...because you can play used games on PC?

Just because it's cheaper in general.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

This is a really stupid idea if they do it, I understand why they would want to though. What if someone wanted to play the game at a friend's house but didn't want to unhook their console and take it with them? They wouldn't be able to with this stupid idea.

Digital downloads is the way to go for future generations.
I hope that day never comes.

This. I'll always prefer a physical copy.
There's zero drawbacks to having a digital copy over a physical.

If Sony patents this, then MS can't use it, and since I play Xbox and not PS3.......then I;m fine.

Same can be said about Microsoft and Sony, or the developer's servers.

you can still play your games, you just can't play online. Look at Halo 2.

Valve going out of business doesn't mean the games get magically deleted from my hard drive.

Because why use a console with PC-like restrictions when you can just use a PC?

This is essentially the PC vs Console argument that's been argued ad nauseum and doesn't address the point.

It's greedy when Sony does it but it's not greedy that it's the same way PC games operate?

Ok great. So why would this be the thing that pushes you over the edge? Just seems like a lot of faux outrage or being mad for the sake of being mad.

Just another case of "internet's gonna internet."

2. Download game you want to play.
because you want to clutter up someone else's computer with something they won't be able to use after you've gone, use up their monthly download limit and probably not download it all if the game is too big within the space of time you have at their house anyway.

There will always be drawbacks don't act like there aren't any. Like if steam shuts down for an uncertain amount of time in which you would need to go get the game.

Digital downloads is the way to go for future generations. I don't have the same need to buy/sell/trade games when I can get them for a ridiculous sale price on Steam.

$7.50 for a GOTY edition of a game? Done.
Ah the thought of buying a game and downloading is great until the servers are shut off and your game collection and your money is gone forever.

At least with disks you can still use them which is why I hate downloading games, there should be an option to download the game but pay a bit extra for them to mail a hard copy.
All online games suffer from this affliction, not just Steam and PC gaming.
You can still play single player if the servers are gone, you can't play at all if steam is gone.

Now you guys are just making up ridiculous scenarios. The chances of that happening are VERY slim and they're very unique occasions.

Yes you can, I have no idea where you're getting this information from. Every game I've downloaded from steam was able to be played while I didn't have an internet connection. Steam being down doesn't mean the games get magically deleted from my hard drive.

I had steam down completely and I could not play any games I had, 2 of them where installed from disk but needed steam to work.

Now tell me, why should some software I was forced to download prevent me from playing the games I bought on a disk? I should have the option to say no and use it as a stand alone.

I didn't put Guild Wars 2 on steam because I had that choice, but Blops and SupCom 2 would not work without the stupid software.

I only play a few games on Xbox to play with friends (Halo 4, CoD, etc). So I might not feel inclined to buy a next gen console.

Although this thread has nothing to do with Microsoft, and if Sony is actually doing this then Microsoft could have a serious upperhand in selling points if they don't.

There is just something magical about leaning your head back, letting your eyes roll into the back of your head, and taking a piss while floating in the swimming pool.

Not that I wouldn't EVER buy a Playstation, but I hope this fails so Microsoft doesn't adopt it as well.
