Now tell me, why should some software I was forced to download prevent me from playing the games I bought on a disk? I should have the option to say no and use it as a stand alone.

Stop being so entitled! You're not entitled to anything you buy when it comes to video games!

Digital downloads is the way to go for future generations.
I hope that day never comes.

This. I'll always prefer a physical copy.
There's zero drawbacks to having a digital copy over a physical.
Then you download the game again when you get a new HDD.

For those looking to vent, get proper advice, or give it to those in need.

Sony heads have already called blocking games a stupid idea and all sorts of bizarre stuff is patented frequently so I wouldn't get too uppity until some concrete confirmation is out.

EDIT: reading comprehension fail.

You account doesn't just magically get hacked. You need to give someone your login info. It's usually done by fake login portals on sites.

*Sigh*

You clearly didn't understand me, 1 day my steam software was working and the next it wasn't. I could not sign in I could not use offline mode until I signed in a changed it and the software would not actually load to the point I could enter my details to log in.

It didn't work simple as that. I did countless re-installs of the software, I uninstalled the games to try and install them without steam and I was forced to install steam every time.

Which actually meant I could not install the game.......I HAVE THE BLOODY DISK!!!!!!

So that means my hard copy is useless because steam DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!!!!

But will the games be cheaper since we are getting them direct? Will the prices go down overtime or just be stuck at 20-30 bucks being the lowest?

I am for buying direct at the same time i want it to be easier on my wallet.

Then don't buy games that require 3rd party software to run.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

1. Why don't they like used/second-hand games?
2. That sounds like a terrible patent.

Its up to the dev to do their price sensitivity analysis. They will charge what we are willing to pay.

Because they don't make money from used game sales.

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

What a joke. I know I won't be purchasing Sony's next generation console if this is true!

1. Log into Steam at friend's house
2. Download game you want to play.
3. Play game.

And your friend doesn't have internet because he just moved wherever.

There will always be drawbacks don't act like there aren't any. Like if steam shuts down for an uncertain amount of time in which you would need to go get the game.
Now you guys are just making up ridiculous scenarios. The chances of that happening are VERY slim and they're very unique occasions.

What?

So it is unrealistic to think that steam might shut down for an uncertain amount of time?

Yea lets watch publishers roll in the cash while gaming shops are run into the ground because of digital downloads.

What do gaming shops have left? Gaming hardware and accessories which can be bought online.

That means 10s of thousands of people are put out of a job and a industry is dead because publishers are greedy.

Remember publishers get the cash and the developers get a cut of that and then get handed a set budget for the next game.

So all that money collected does not actually go to the devs.

Good catch, that pretty much destroys that argument.

The "perfect storm" of needing to install a game at a friend's house, and they don't have internet, and the Steam servers are down is HIGHLY unlikely.

Yes, Steam servers are down for maintenance sometimes. It happens. There's offline mode for a reason.

Everything needs either Steam, Origin or GFWL right now.

Plus I had no bloody idea I needed the games to be on steam to work at the time of purchase and I didn't even have steam until I bought SupCom 2.

The last PC hard copy game I got was Skyrim so since I got steam I have got 3 hard copy games in 3-4 years and will be unplayable along with my digital library once steam goes bye bye unless the force all steam clients to go into offline mode before the servers are shut down.

I think the idea of second hand games is great. If I buy a game that I don't like, I can take it back and trade it for another one that I might like better, while putting my copy of the game I didn't like, back on the shelf for someone else that might like it. So y'know which games are the ones that get taken back to the store to be sold used? Usually the old ones(that may or may not still be in print) or the ones that suck. Don't like your games being resold used? Make a better game.

Unless you have a keylogger, or forget your password and login,
User error.
or the site and database gets hackedThat's Steam's fault, and they would have to resolve that and restore the affected accounts. All user databases are subject to compromise. This is not a Steam-only issue.
or if someone targets your account.I'm not even sure what you mean by that. Someone can't just glean your login info from your account unless they have access to the entire user database.
