Don't like to tip? Then don't. Be prepared to be seen as an ass if you don't, though.

While that may be true, I'm just going to pretend otherwise.

Then, you should expect to find your food to be tainted.

I hope you don't go back to the same restaurant or bar more than once. If so you've probably eaten quite a few pubes and drank plenty of spit.

I make a point in tipping very well. I'm usually tipping around 30-45% on things under $75 or so.

If everyone stops tipping them, they'll have to pay the waiters and waitresses more money.

Then the price of the meal or whatever will go up because of that.

If you don't tip a good waiter at least 15%, you are a pleb amongst men who call themselves men.

Yes they will. they already do. If a server does not make enough money to get them to minimum wage, then the restaurant has to pay the rest. Now if tipping simply ceased, then yes wages would go up. And then so would the cost of the meal. Restaurants do not have large margins. It's very slim, in the range of 2% to 10% on average.

I tip because those waiters need all the money they can get. Their salaries aren't that great, and most bosses don't pay them the tip, you have to give it to them so that they can earn a little more than what they already do. It's not too much of a stretch to add a couple more money than what you're paying, because it's effect is much larger than just removing some more money from your wallet. Also, some waiters really facilitate your time at restaurants and they allow you to have a good time; with the tip, you're commending them for it whereas that would be absent if you did not.

The thing is, if you stop tipping, the waiters and waitresses will get minimum wage and thats it.

That is you being cheap, and expecting employers to pay $20+/hr to a waitress.

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

I look at it this way:

I could be a fatass and order more food, or I could give the money to someone who may be having trouble putting food on their plate in the first place.

To be clear, I'm not calling the OP a fatass, I'm just implying that his posterior is larger than average.

When I did tip, I never tipped over 5%. You're tipping over 30%? That's too much.
That's fine. Do what you want. I'll be getting great service from the restaurant/bar because they know I tip well. Meanwhile, they wont even bother refilling your free water.

Then, you should expect to find your food to be tainted.

You don't see a problem with this? Just because I didn't tip?

No. There are always consequences. It's your choice not to tip. Certain etiquette is always expected. If everyone stops tipping, meal prices go up because the employer has to pay minimum wage. Therefore, you aren't saving any money by not tipping. Most waitresses and waiters make $2 an hour plus tips. Delivery men and women have to pay for their own gas.

Depends if it's a Ma and Pa place. I can tell you from experience, fine dining places, or even upscale places make far more. Places make a killing on catering, staff parties and the holidays in general. I worked at a place in Toronto, and the head chef has afford to open 2 restaurants in five years in the financial district.

Smaller places, like diners and family businesses don't make as much. But, more on topic, tipping is the nature of the food industry, as I see it. I don't see why people wouldn't tip.
