Subject: Scariest era of warfare.

Dear tomorrow, Find some sensibility, Respond to emotion.
Dear Politician, Define sagacity,
All chances of survival are beginning to diminish.
Comedy is no excuse for our own blasphemies.
Mass media, Mass pessimism, Mass Denial.
My television tells me to panic, but I don't think I'll listen.

Halo era.

You tell me what is scarier, fighting people with the same technology as you, or being dropped from space in a small metal box, and coming out to fight aliens with god knows what weapons they have?

I would have said that too, but Halo is fictitious, so I said WWII instead.

Civil War era. It was basically, "hey guys I know there are cannons firing and stuff but march up in a line into the enemy waiting for us"

Mustard/Chlorine gas, or any chemical weapon for that matter, and it's only going to get worse.

The same thing for WWI, except on a larger scale with more modern technology, eg, chlorine gas, Flamethrowers, Big bertha.

Mustard gas and trenches sounds like a pretty rough combination.

'Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, Υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐλέησόν με τὸν ἁμαρτωλόν.'

I imagine World War I would have been pretty nasty. Imagine spending all day inside of an extremely narrow, claustrophobic, hot yet most trench in the dirt--with relentless gunshots and artillery fire going off over your head, up to your knees in mud and water, developing trench foot. And even worse, knowing that it is only a matter of time before you will have to charge across "No-Man's Land" where you most likely will be mowed down by automatic fire and/or artillery. And then if you actually do make it across--or the enemy makes it across to your side--then you have to fight them up close and personal inside of the already uncomfortable, claustrophobic trench in brutal hand-to-hand combat.

Not to mention that the tenches were filled, sometimes up to the waste, with urine, dirty water and mud. The smeel was atrocious aswell, with rotting corpes, rodents and vermin and urine.

Yup, definitely one of the worst.

WWI, old age tactics with new age weaponry. A good movie that was recently made about WWI was War Horse, it showcases some of the absolutely retarded things British (other allied commanders did the same, but the movie is mainly about the British and Germans so don't get your panties in a twist) commanders made their troops do.

Unfortunately it skips out of the real nasty chemical weapons that were used during the war, but it's understandable considering the effects of such weapons were horrifying.

Any era where the predominant method of killing the enemy involved being up close and personal and shoving a sharpened piece of metal into their body.

Current. Nukes, chemical weapons, massive militaries, and a reckless world power past it's prime with all three. The potential for the killing of human beings en masse has never been greater.

Wow, just wow!

Around the 1700-1800s. Nothing like standing in formation while cannon shot and musket balls tear through your buddies. Especially when amputation was the common cure, and death came slowly.

I am an orange mist amongst a sea of blue, so my flames may stand out and represent all those who trully believe in this great sacriment of Bungie history, let my story be told as the only legendary still standing even after I fall Just as my comrades did so graciously to fight for the true loyal.
If you have legendary, would you stand by my side and go forth into a sea blue and demise as my brothers fighting for those who are trully loyal to Bungie?

Either WWI or Vietnam. Mainly Vietnam since they were literally pulling guys straight out of highschool and sending them to war. God knows how horrible that would be to just have gotten out of school only to be shipped un prepared and basically un willingly to a hell hole.

not to mention the size of those rodents and vermin. thr rats were the size of cats. the soldiers also suffered from extreme boredom, so not only were the living in these horrible conditions, but they couldn't even do anything in the time before they go over the top to get their morale up.

  • 01.03.2013 12:35 PM PDT

Hurr

I'd say WW1. Cramped muddy trenches. Disease and little to cure it. Bioweapons and ineffective gas masks to counter them. New weapons that could annihilate crowds with ease. Most importantly, going over the trench.

Actually everything has turned less violent, wars are mostly small engagements across the area of fighting.

In the old days there were way more people fighting and dying in one isolated area, and everything went.

Although a nuclear war would be worse than anything it will probably not happen any time soon. Hopefully.

Marley: next time try to be a little for inconspicuous.
John: What do you mean?
Marley: John, we grow lots of gear, right?
John: Yeah loads...
Marley: So try not to come back with a wasted girl and a packet of fertilizer!

I'd go for ancient times because there aren't many deaths inflicted on the battlefield that are more painful than a good old-fashioned stabbing.

Yeah, you could argue that biological weapons like mustard gas were far worse but not every single soldier killed was killed by the mustard gas, you were more likely to be eradicated painlessly in a fraction of a second by an artillery shell.

'Κύριε Ἰησοῦ Χριστέ, Υἱὲ τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἐλέησόν με τὸν ἁμαρτωλόν.'

In a strange, ironic twist of events, the invention of the nuclear bomb has sort of dealt a deathblow to conventional warfare now since most developed nations will no longer conventionally go to war due to fear of the atomic bomb. In a sense, it brought an uneasy peace to mankind, and we have entered the age of guerilla warfare.
