So I've been challenged by my computer service tech teacher to make a better budget gaming pc than him, for $700. Here is what I have so far. Please give me any ideas you have for changing stuff.

He already has monitor, keyboard, speakers, and mouse.

Please do not send me group invites.

Does he already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers?

yes, I will add that to the post.

You'll get lots of help here.
The first thing I've noticed is the 8350. It has very weak single-core performance. It wouldn't suit most games.

The pros and cons of melting cheese before spreading it on potatoes? What the -blam!- does it look like we're discussing?

The cake is a pie

Holy hell. That's a reasonable budget. Why not just build your own PC out of scholarships and gold monocles?

I'm not building this for myself, it's for a friend. The teacher and i are going to see who can get the best build.

If I haven't fired you yet, it's because I'm still firing your mom in bed.

>Budget gaming build
>AMD octocore
>*sigh*

Get a Phenom II 965 Black Edition. This is a gaming build, so there's literally no point whatsoever in getting more than a quad core because the only game I can think of that even uses 3 cores is GTA IV, and it does a really, really, really, really, REALLY bad job of it.

With the money you save, you can up your GPU to something not wildly mediocre.

Here you go, OP. This processor will get you the same gaming performance as far as the CPU goes, but the better GPU will significantly improve it.

Here are benchmarks for gaming performance than involve the 8350 and the 980, which is a factory overclocked 965. As far as Battlefield 3 goes, there's less than one FPS of a difference in performance.
