Subject: So Has Microsoft Justified the $10 bump up to Xbox Live?

I know this is very late, it's been like, what? A year since Microsoft bumped up the 12 month price of Xbox Live from $50 to $60.

Perhaps this isn't the right forum to go to, but I have to ask, what made them spike the price up? It's not justifiable.

I know to alot of you, $60 ain't nothing, but we have to look at the ideal that each cents, each dollar is being used to ensure our satisfaction, to be honest, I'm still kindoff pissed they spiked the price.

Microsoft has no no reason to spike up the price, none.

What? Is it to make up the costs of the servers?
Hmmmm, then why the hell are there adds as soon as I'm on my home screen? Or how about those Master Chief toys and Master Chief Booty-Sweat Flavored Doritos? To me, those things are also bringing in the bacon for Microsoft. Timed exclusive DLC is also bringing in cash for Microsoft

Better yet, let's talk about how Indie developers and smaller developers are screwed when it comes to patches because Microsoft charges $40,000 PER patch.

"How dare you complain! Not only do you pay just to play games but to use apps!!!"
Well correct me if I'm wrong, Didn't MS get rid of some apps, such as twitter and facebook? So am I paying the extra 10 dollars for apps I do not use? Seriously Hulu? The step brother of Netflix? Almost any app is pointless because I can just whip out my Macbook Pro and do just the same minus the terrible interface that Xbox has.

PLEASE tell me it's not going to Internet Explorer 10, no one likes Internet Explorer, who would be use IE on their Xbox while the power of the internet is in your phone and probably a 100 times faster to access then loading up your xbox/quitting a game, going to the menu and loading IE10 then googling a walkthrough of a game.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, why on earth did MS decide to raise the price of a year's worth of Xbox? The quality of the User Interface has decreased, the quality of presentation has flatlined, the complete package has decreased in value.

TL;DR In no way does MS deserved the increase of Xbox Live price.

I liked it better when it was $50 a year with no ads on the dashboard. Unlike right now. This is my last year of XBL gold.

Why do they have to justify it? If you want the service, pay the extra money. If not, don't. Simple.

  • 01.03.2013 3:46 PM PDT

Tin shacks and catfish bones.

Microsoft is going to use their web browser for their Microsoft products. It really isn't hard to determine why they would use IE instead of something like Mozilla or Chrome.

That's only part of what I'm trying to get at. I'm trying to get people to think about if paying for $60 worth it. It's not worth the investment, but alas, I pay for it because I want to play with my friends online.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

Good thing I bought another year before this increase because it is looking less and less likely that I'll be buying an XBL membership for 2014...

That is very obvious. I guess what I'm trying to say is: Why do we even need internet explorer? I'm pretty sure no one uses the internet browser on their PS3. The fact we can get internet literally with just one tap of the finger (phones) outbeats having an app on the xbox.

They increased the price about a year ago... maybe even longer.

One of the main reasons was inflation.

These two sentences contradict each other. You obviously enjoy playing with your friends online, so it's worth the investment to you.

And you can always find better deals than the list price. Target and Best Buy sold 3 month cards for $10 during their Black Friday sales ($40 for 12 months). Only a fool pays the list price.

Also, to add on to what you said, you have to pay the subscription fee for apps like Hulu, Netflix, Crunchyroll ON TOP of the LIVE subscription.

I just noticed it really. Anyways, I think it's ridiculous to have to pay the price of most new Xbox 360 games in order to access an online service which is already free on other consoles. Unfortunately, most people will either overlook this issue or just not care enough for anything major to happen concerning the price of Xbox LIVE; so you shouldn't expect anything to change.

Why Bungie, why would you do this?! - Halo Community

I find it to be worth the money. Its only 5 bucks out of my paycheck every month.

Sure, it would be nice if they did justify it, but its very unlikely they will charge anymore. $60 is the magic number for one year subscriptions universally.

You obviously DO think its worth it to pay. You just said it. And im guessing the majority of Live subscribers do so for that same reason. Hell, i sure do. Plus the others who do it for other reason that you may not agree on.

So the world might be mended...

I stopped paying for it a year ago, the only reason I have gold is because a friend added me to a family pack because he wanted to continue playing with me. I refuse to pay for it.

I'm mainly on my ps3 anyway, and if I wanted to I'd get ps+ which actually has plenty of awesome bonuses that come with it.

It scares me when people not only think this, but express it publicly. That wasn't what he meant.

1) I wouldn't call it a contradiction. I have to pay $60 if I want to play with my friends. Nothing else is used except for the access to play with friends. Therefore, I feel that paying $60 dollars is not justifiable for a huge majority of GAMERS who just use Live to play with friends.

2) No you can't always find cheap prices on XboxLive memberships. Of course memberships were cheaper in November/December.

Sure it is. There are many other platforms he and his friends can play on if they think they're being ripped off. You can't say you hate something and then turn around and shell out money for it (especially when it's an optional service).
