Just go to costco, it's still $50 there. It's where I always buy my membership.

here ya go
Damn what can't you buy from Costco.

I love how it went up in the US, but the majority of UK retailers brought the price down slightly.

Yay, UK gets something for once! :D

Nope. Give me free online and maybe I'll consider even plugging in my xbox again. Haven't touched it since I switched to PC.

You're paying monthly for your PC as well.... "Online" isn't free.

Perhaps this isn't the right forum to go to, but I have to ask, what made them spike the price up? It's not justifiable.
One of the main reasons was inflation.
This.

An average inflation of ~2.4% over the last 10 years justifies the 20% price raise for Xbox Live.

That's what I just read.
Let your money speak for you. Willingly paying for a service you feel is a rip off is a silly thing to do, and does nothing for your cause.

Agreed with King Dutchy, I like to think that if I was running a business, I cater to what the consumer wants in certain boundaries that are beneficial for both the consumer and corporation.

The original question was, why was the $10 spike there? Yet, you tend to ignore that and say, "YOU PAYED FOR IT SO WHY DO YOU CARE?" I care because it is clear that after the price became $60 the quality of what Microsoft offers with Xbox Live is ironically worse than when I used to pay $50.

I was fine with paying $50!

If Fed Ex and UPS merged into one company, would it be called Fed Up?

I don't want to start another account for a digital number that has no true value in ten years.

It's still a superior service that has and still is better than what you get from PSN.

An unjustifiable price DOES NOT EQUAL being ripped off or not

What deals? My gold recently expired and they're still begging me to give them $5 a month for 12 months...which is still $60.

Microsoft has no no reason to spike up the price, none.

And you know this how exactly? You have access to MS overhead/operational costs concerning XBL do you? You know just what they sink into it, and that it does't necessitate a subcriptions fee to maintain? The fact of the matter is that you know -blam!- aside from it costs an amount of money that you don't feel it should.

Yea, it comes off as rather stupid that a paid service also has ads, but once again we don't know if the ads may be there to off-set another possible raise. Despite fanboy logic, Sony and Nintendo offering a free service (at a loss, I might add) is not an indicator that MS is ripping people off.

I remember it had something to do with Activision and early CoD maps.

Inflation could be a culprit, I don't know. I don't mind paying 60 dollars for an Entire year of service, though I don't use any of the apps and use my Xbox purely for gaming with friends, so yeah. . Like another poster said, it is kind of ripoff, but it's manageable.

But a ripoff compared to what? It's considerably cheaper than a WoW subscripton fee, and you get access to more than just a single game.

It annoys me that we have adverts forced down our throats whenever we go on, yet Xbox live is a payed service!

  • 01.03.2013 4:42 PM PDT

Check out The Game Lounge

I am done with Xbox Live, too expensive, too many ads.

  • 01.03.2013 4:44 PM PDT

One does not simply trolololol into Mordor.

Oh that's great, now it's $90 instead of $80 for a year for me. Awesome.

I'm curious as to how Xbox live is better, I also have both systems and they seems the same to me.

Maybe I'm just not using Xbox live to its full extent, can you elaborate?

Through basic research you can find 13 months for as low as $35-$40 online. What I always do.

Ahhh, the "WHY DON'T YOU STEP IN THEIR SHOES!" statement. . . I love how people/fanboys use that to sympathize with anything. I don't know much but I know Activision/EA/Ubisoft/WheteverPublisher Inc give enough ($40,000) for a single update. Oh, I also know the fact Microsoft is one of the biggest corporations in the world. Infact with all the crap they are willing to develop, (Kinect/Windows Phone/Surface or whatever their tablet is). I'm pretty sure their original $50 met demands.

By the way, I never did say MS is ripping people off. A rip off is The War Z.

There's a difference between a reasonable increase compared to a "rip off".

To me its with the apps, how easy it is to navigate and use basic stuff. Also in regards to friends, party chat, basically nobody talks online because PS3 requires bluetooth. It's like a barren wasteland when you play online. Also downloads take forever on PSN.

If PSN had better service, then I would switch but for now I'm fine with paying the money for a better service taht gives me more.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

It is probably about price discrimination. The reasoning is, some people are willing to pay as much as 60$, some people aren't. So if we offer a yearly subscription at a discount at retailers a few times a year, we can probably retain our price sensitive customers, while charging our less price sensitive customers a higher price. If you're a price sensitive customer, pay attention to sales, XBL has been 60$ up here for years, and I haven't payed more than 45$ in a long time.

I can still buy it for about £30-£40 here in the UK. The price hasn't gone up here, but then again I buy my 12 month membership from places like amazon, play.com and ebay. You'd have to be plain silly to buy a year membership from Game (UK's Gamestop).

I can understand the price raise. But why the ads I pay a service to be free from that junk.
