Inflation could be a culprit, I don't know. I don't mind paying 60 dollars for an Entire year of service, though I don't use any of the apps and use my Xbox purely for gaming with friends, so yeah. . Like another poster said, it is kind of ripoff, but it's manageable.

But a ripoff compared to what? It's considerably cheaper than a WoW subscripton fee, and you get access to more than just a single game.

I only use the live service to play games online, I hardly use any of the apps. But I'm not very educated on the matter, you said earlier that sony offers a free service but at a loss. Can you tell my why that is?

I intend to live forever, or die trying,

so far, so good.

It cost $90 Australian, and the Australian Dollar is worth more than America.

Why am I been ripped of $30?

Global Economy not working here.

I'm glad you cared to look at this box with letters. Lets hang out sometime! :D

OP, you can get it cheaper online, so stop complaining.

-i'm going to play a multiplatform game on ps3, but i have never gone online before
-i just signed up and can now play my game

-i'm going to play a multiplatform game on xbox, but i have never gone online before
-i just signed up and paid infinitely more than if i was playing on the ps3

geez, i wonder how xbl could be seen as a rippoff.

I believe there was an extra credits video that kind of explained it.

Basically, there was a time when companies had to hike up costs to make games profitable in Australia, but when they no longer needed to make Aussies pay more, they found that Aussies would pay more regardless, so they never lowered the price.

Microsoft has no no reason to spike up the price, none.

And you know this how exactly? You have access to MS overhead/operational costs concerning XBL do you? You know just what they sink into it, and that it does't necessitate a subcriptions fee to maintain? The fact of the matter is that you know -blam!- aside from it costs an amount of money that you don't feel it should.*

Yea, it comes off as rather stupid that a paid service also has ads, but once again we don't know if the ads may be there to off-set another possible raise. Despite fanboy logic, Sony and Nintendo offering a free service (at a loss, I might add) is not an indicator that MS is ripping people off.

Ahhh, the "WHY DON'T YOU STEP IN THEIR SHOES!" statement. . . I love how people/fanboys use that to sympathize with anything. I don't know much but I know Activision/EA/Ubisoft/WheteverPublisher Inc give enough ($40,000) for a single update. Oh, I also know the fact Microsoft is one of the biggest corporations in the world. Infact with all the crap they are willing to develop, (Kinect/Windows Phone/Surface or whatever their tablet is). I'm pretty sure their original $50 met demands.

You should really take a look at the quarterly earning reports, for all three manufacturers. It may give you an idea as to why certain things cost what they do.

By the way, I never did say MS is ripping people off. A rip off is The War Z.

There's a difference between a reasonable increase compared to a "rip off".

You stated they had no reason to bump the price, so what were you implying? My statement actually has no fanboy sentiment in it whatsoever, i'm just annoyed at these type of comments that show strong ignorance of how product costing works.

Microsoft has treated me poorly in the last couple of years; Windows 8, Xbox LIVE price going up and the advertisements on the dashboard. I'd rather go on a PlayStation or even better game on a non-Windows computer.

  • 01.03.2013 5:02 PM PDT

In honesty if I am paying this much at least make the advertisements for silver only seriously.

  • 01.03.2013 5:04 PM PDT

There's a “U” and “I” in union but just an “I” in my beliefs

They know their costumers will buy it.

Halo: Reach
Xbox Live
Xfire

You see, each Xbox 360 costs Microsoft $500 to make. They sell Xbox's for about $300. They need to make up the lost cash in XBL, games, and DLC.

It should be -blam!- free. It's a P2P service with ads.

All I've got to say is.... as soon as I have the money to buy a gaming PC, bye bye Xbox.

It's a P2P service with ads.

That's relative to the game you're playing.

  • 01.03.2013 5:38 PM PDT

Watch out. If I post in your thread, chances are it'll die. I've been cursed, and if I kill your thread, I'm sorry.

They hiked the price up so that they can make more money, advertise us more stuff we don't need/want, can advertise services that XBL doesn't pay for (Netflix, Vudu, etc).

Honestly, if they hike it up any more, I'm done. My PS3 is perfectly fine, and I don't have to pay anything to play online.

Because ESPN ads have everything to do with Bayonetta. MS rip people off.

Signatures are for little kids.

I've been a member for 10 years now.

I didn't notice any increase in yearly rates for at least the first 7 years.

Even this year when I bought a 12 month card in November it seemed to be about the same price, this is in Canada and not America though.

OH GAWD!!! Microsofts' Q4 Earnings stated that their Online Services, had an 8% Increase! with a revenue of 0.74 Billion! OH GAWD Their Entertainment and Devices had it even WORSE! With a 20% Increase with a revenue 1.79 Billion! They're in bad shape!

They were even SSSSSOOO Poor they couldn't buy Yammer for 1.2 Billion, make $300 million investment in Barnes n Nobles, acquire patents worth over a billion, then sell half of them to Facebook for 500 million!!!

Hell Microsoft is so tight on money Vivendi didn't even have them on the list of THE FEW potential buyers of the Billions-dollar-worth Activision
