Why is it called a carpet ban?

You know not to bump it so why do it?
Making a sacrifice to save someone else from losing their title. I'm thankful for these people, sometimes I become forgetful of the rules or I succumb to temptations and I'll want to post in a thread, but then these people remind me not to post in the thread, and I'm thankful for them, saved me more than once.

All they are doing is bringing it back up to the top so more people will post in it though. If they want too good on them I guess but it doesn't help.

But know those members will be abusing and harming their carpets after their bans.

By donating just a small amount per month to the Help for Carpets foundation, you can help stop Carpet ban cruelty.

Yes it is fair. Coming from someone who has been carpet banned while not contributing to the discussion.

I don't know man, carpets are evil.

I was banned unfairly in that carpet ban in my opinion. The moderators need to acknowledge that some people aren't at fault, and need to make the rules clear before they enforce them.

Or maybe you should exercise self control and not breath your political opinions on everyone in a thread that is clearly toxic.

You chose to post in a topic that is undeniably political. You where then, even if you posted "hi", were participating in a political discussion, and NOW are using another account to complain about an consistently applied minimal ban to all participants as "unfair". Everyone got it, it was even, everyone was treated uniformly, and you are here, saying "yes, I am banned, but with this account I am flaunting my disregard for my membership agreement and the terms I promised to abide by, so that I can say "I wasn't as bad that those other people, the rules don't and shouldn't apply to me when I don't like the consequences".

Are you 4? Tell you what. PM me the account name, I will look at the exact post(s) you made and if you weren't "doing anything wrong, I will do something for you". Limited time offer. PM me from the banned account and reference this post.

Because the mods are lazy. They suffer from internet sickness just like us.

What individuals? 5 pages of discussion on a subject that is not allowed.

How big of a "keep out" sign does something need before people keep out?

Any reply to that was a rule break. Participation in a topic that is not permitted to be discussed. Anyone who thinks that they could put a reply in there that wasn't (at its core) a rule breaking reply, is kidding themselves.

I just wanted to make it clear that the way you moderated that thread was unfair to many respectable and honest members.

You haven't heard a thing that I've said.

Any member in the thread lost their claims of respectability or honesty.

Take your 3 day is wise, because I was going to hammer the account if you had PM'ed me from it. Just like I am going to permabann this account of yours for blatant ban evasion.

Yeah, you're a model to everyone. You think that the rules should be altered for you because it's you.

That is understandable. I do not know what it is like to be an administrator of a large website.

I was simply wondering if there was anyway of trying to avoid chastening any members that may have been trying to cool a thread before it got out of hand.

A user cannot stop a discussion.

It's best to just stand back and let the mod tanks roll.

Or what if they posted once warning people of the consequences.

You warn other members by reporting bad posts.

Not really. The mods don't get paid to do this. There is no real incentive to ban anyone. They do just because they can. They follow the rules but the rules are not black and white. They use this to ban people when they are in a bad mood.

I was carpet banned once, three days only, I still sent a PM that was well-written. I didn't expect a reply, less a lift of my ban.* The truth is that I went into that thread clueless of it being a stupid one.

Anyway, I don't think carpet bans are unfair, just think twice before posting in a thread and you should be fine. If you really want to appeal then try to at least understand the situation.

* Didn't get a reply to my PM, but that's because the thread had many replies and the Ninja's inbox probably got stormed

Don't request an appeal. it makes it longer. I sent a real good pm with evidence and links everywhere proving the mod was lying and i made it worse. 7 week to a one monther.

"No, Hoobla. No."

No. It is not fair. Infact, it is the only reason I am not mythic right now. The Flood was running amuck, I made a thread reminding them that Achronos was still thinking about nuking the place, then bam. 14 day ban. 14 DAYS FOR THAT!?!? Everyday I sign in on this site and see that moderation history and it just reminds me how even the smallest most meaningless role can make someone a power -blam!-... I mean why even read the post right? If there is a few bad threads than why not just ban the whole website? It would be easier than sorting through the meaningless terms like "right" or "wrong". In fact, I am going to become a cop and arrest my entire city! Sure some innocents will get caught up in it all, but boy will I show those criminals!
/rant

P.S. Most of you mods are still pretty cool.

I'm not sure on the circumstances surrounding your ban. This is a case-to-case thing. I doubt a ninja would increase a ban without some foundation.

I think the idea behind appealing your ban is that you have a chance to discuss the nature of the penalty that has been applied and if it has been a happy accident then it will be revoked.

You should also read the FAQ before sending out a PM to a ninja that is about a ban or a warning.
