Can someone help me with this?

I need to find the legnth of a hypnotenuse ad write the answer in radical form.

The triangle has 2 side legnths. The short leg is square root of 5, the long leg is 5. According to my book I'm supposed to multiply the short leg by 2 inorder to get the hypnotenuse.

I do that and get 4.47. Great, now how do I put it in radical form?

Visual representation would have been clear, but that is probably correct from the information your giving - what year of school are you in?

Hypotenuse, so right triangle.

So A^2 + B^2 = C^2
(sqrt5)^2 + 5^2 = 30
(sqrt 30) = 5.47

EDIT - (sqrt 30) is the answer and it is in radical form.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

sqrt(5)^2 + 5^2 = c^2 (hypotenuse^2)

5 + 25 = c^2

c = sqrt(30)

Close, but the plague killed those infected with it, and the ignorant are still alive.
I wish ignorance was a plague.

Is it a right triangle? If not, there's more information missing.

It is. OP said hypotenuse. Can only have those on right angles.

I didn't think to use the pythagorean theorem, thanks!
(I'm actually not sure if I'm supposed to use it to solve these problems, but I'll double check with my teacher tomorrow)

EDIT: ^ I'm a sophomore in Highschool.

The answer is the square root of 30. That's the radical form of the answer. Remember the Pythagorean theorem.

a^2 + b^2 = c^2

c= hypotenuse

a+b= length of the legs

Damn, thanks for calling me out. I haven't slept for around 40 hours now (trying to reset my sleep cycle), so I'm a bit hazy.

Heh, just figured out where I was going wrong. I was following the steps for a 30-60-90 triangle, whoops. :P
