Once you get over the fact you're drawing on one surface with the result coming up on another they're spectacularly good. Bear in mind though that the Bamboo is the absolute lowest entry level tablet you can get, the drawing area is tiiny.
Is there anything better for a reasonable price?The best are Intuos, where you can actually see the screen on the tablet but they're close to $1000USD.
There are also different pens.
Look into the 6D pen. It's able to recognize varying angles, more akin to a paintbrush, then other pens.
I think you mean Cintiq, not Intuos (I could be wrong). Even the cheapest Cintiq is $999, with the professional models going as high as $4500
