Subject: Drawing tablet. What's it like?

A cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal.

And from FOX, two phantoms were born.

Do I have to download any programs once I get it or is it all there ready to go?

I recommend you download the bamboo dock program. That thing has some good apps in it. Lke I use the Sumo Paint app to draw stuff.

Awesome.

May get ZBrush too.

Like Hitman says, download the latest software from Wacoms website.

The only other things you'll have to do is set up your preferences in the Wacom software. Things like what the extra buttons do and what the buttons on the pen does.

You'll also need to learn how to set things up in Photoshop, or whatever software you use. Photoshop is designed to use tablets so its very easy to set things up, but basically you can set brushes up to adjust to things like pen pressure, pen direction and set up all sorts of fun things.

Oh and start collecting brushes. It's important but start with a new brush collection and have just a few brushes. Normally hard round, soft round and a hard flat are good places to start.

This tutorial has a link to a good basic brush collection to get you started. Then you just start adding to that.

I'm not sure..... but just googling "gimp wacom" yields a ton of hits so I'm confident it does work. You should work that out though, as that would suck if it didn't work.

Consider Photoshop though. Not only is the industry standard but it is genuinely an amazing creative tool.
