They were still not MarkVI or above they were alternate specialized armors to complete specific tasks.

Ya, so?

Nowhere in Halo canon does it say Spartan IIs only wore Mark armor.

If the UNSC can afford to give Spartan IIIs specialized armor, and to date they were the "manufactured, assembly line" version of Spartans with hundreds in numbers, they can definitely give Spartan IIs, their war is going okey dokey propaganda machine, specialized armor.

343 didnt have the rights to the design. apparently.

they should have done some kind of "new armour" scene as in halo 2.

What about the Halo 3 Mark VI design multiplayer reward for Legendary completion?

Well if Bob is right that makes a lot of sense. The Mk VI you get for Legendary in H4 is actually quite different to the original Bungie Mk VI, the only thing more or less identical is the helmet, everything else is quite different under scrutiny.

It's still a better design than his new armor, they should have put that design into the main campaign instead. But oh well, the campaign was still enjoyable and the new design isn't really an eye sore.

take note of "apparently".
i believe they wanted something new, and were too lazy to back it up.

No point in putting something funny, clever or informative here. Most probably im going to get perma-banned anyway.

Retcon. 343 is basically acting as if the Chief had that armor before. Stupid but there you go.

It's 343's interpretation of it.

Though MP is cannon now, and it has the old Mark VI...

If you were responding to me on that one, Master Chief was the only spartan to receive MarkVI armor, all the other ones had Mark V.

I wasn't.

Ah, okay. Good day to ye then.

The sentence below is a lie.

The sentence above is the truth.

New engine. Unless you want a pixel-perfect copy of halo 3 armor, complete with the same low details, it will change.

But not the one that is apparently more fragging advanced and does not currently exist in the timeline.

After, all the nostalgic feel of Halo gos away, I can say the campaign had some wierd plot holes.

Off Topic: How did Cortana already know what Infinity was when it was barely the second mission? They just fell from space and automaticaly go: WE MUST FIND INFINITY!

Cortana said the Infinity was under construction B4 they got lost.

Wait, now I'm confused as to what you are actually trying to say now...

How do they not exist in the timeline? Is that part of the cutscene set in a different year?

Yep its artistic license. Unfortunately its extremely unclear if its artistic license or nanobots or space magic as noone at 343i seems to want to set the record straight.

It's also made worse that even though the Chief is wearing the same armor thats visually different there is also the "original" Mk VI armor as well. So basically there are two new versions of Mk VI in Halo 4 and no true original version in sight.

You'd think it would hard to screw it up right? Yet somehow 343i found a way.....

  • 01.03.2013 7:01 PM PDT

Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

But it isn't new. It's still the same Mark VI suit he got issued just before Halo 2. Cortana, as she said in the beginning of Halo 4, updated the internal systems like a grenade indicator and a more noticeable damage indicator. Cheezits, people... this is not that hard.

It wouldn't be that hard if there wasn't also another set of Mk VI armor in the game and if Frankie hadn't complicated things by mentioning nanobots.

My theory for why so much is different is that Bungie's halo trilogy and 343i's trilogy take place in different universes.

In Bungie's universe, the canon is such that the fight was finished and Chief was left drifting in space, forerunner planet or not. The Forerunners remain just as mysterious as they were in CE and humanity can honor the lost and rebuild.

In 343i's universe, most of the same general events from Bungie's universe occurred, albeit, with drastically different looks and laws of physics. Some Forerunners are not only alive, but characterized and antagonistic. Also, any combat simulators programmed within this universe will be inexplicably shoddy.

For the 9586232569th time, Cortana modified his armor while he was in cryo sleep.

WHY ARE ALL THE SPARTAN II's wearing it in the intro scene then!?

I assume it's just some artistic licence. It would be pointless to make an entirely new model just for a cutscene that's only a minute long. It's like in Halo 2, where instead of being a Halcyon-class cruiser like before, the Pillar of Autumn was a Marathon-class cruiser instead because Bungie didn't want to waste resources on something that would appear for only 2 seconds.

The human element always mucks things up.

How did Cortana know the Didact's name the second they meet?
What does the word Didact even mean?
Is he a forerunner or a subservient race to the forerunners?
Is the librarian a forerunner?
Is she dead?
Why was the didact even in the sphere in the first place?
Why doesn't MC even acknowledge the fact that Spartan IV's exist?
Why is Palmer such a -blam!-?
Does Hard Light mean Chief can finally make the sex with Cortana?

Yes. The Spartan-II's in the intro cutscene should be wearing MK-V variants of Mjolnir as it took place before MK-VI was issued to Spartan-II's.
