Bungie=Bible
Hmmmmmm... nope don't see the connection. Sorry.
Oh my goodness, I think I should make a thread about this. Why can't there be a connection between Halo and the Bible? Everybody is fine with accepting the connections with mythology, and what is the difference between the Bible and mythology? As near as I can tell, the main difference is that mythology is stories that no one believes anymore, but the Bible is a bunch of stories people do still believe in. That isn't much of a difference when it comes to putting it into a story. Besides, people seem to accept this connection to mythology because of names like Cortana and Mjolnir and Spartan. If these names is enough to convince people of a connection, why not Ark, Flood, Covenant, John, Prophet, and, oh yeah, Halo.
Besides, is it that hard to do anyway? Just look at the Left Behind series, they didn't have all that much trouble making a modern telling of Revelation. All Bungie is doing is making it futuristic. If anything, that makes it easier. I mean, in a modern retelling, you're restricted to mostly using what we have now. In a futuristice retelling, if you need a big monster, you can do that a whole lot easier.
Then, if you want more proof, take a look at Marathon and what they were able to do with that. It is filled with philosophical stuff about human nature and fate and, of course, God. If they can do philosphical stuff like that, doing something as easy as a story would be no problem.
And of course, there is the quote from Jason Jones:
Basically we wanted something that could grab you. You can play Pathways without really knowing what the plot is at all, and with the complex plot you really couldn't do that. You would have really had to get into the plot, and we didn't want to force people to do that because a lot of people don't want to. It was a really good story, at least I think it was because I wrote it, but I think it would have been burdensome. But in the long run, that's the kind of game I'm much more interested in writing.
He's interested in writing games with deep plots? Hm, sounds like maybe, I don't know, putting in a Biblical allegory!
Of course, many don't believe it is Biblical allegory because it doesn't seem to have a spiritual message. However, most people who try to connect the entire story say that it is about Revelation and a few other places referring to that time (which just happens to be "the way the world ends"). Now, what is the main reason people don't think it can be spiritual? Because in Halo, lots of stuff dies. But then, lots of stuff dies at the end of the world, doesn't it? Exactly. The main spiritual message of Revelation is the message of salvation for those who know the truth of the Bible. Well, we already know Halo is a story about salvation (not sure where that quote is, maybe someone can help me out with that), and it seems pretty obvious that the bad guys (Gravemind, Prophet of Truth, etc.) aren't the ones getting saved. These are also the ones who spread lies, and don't know the truth of what is going on. So basically, Halo completely fits the spiritual message.
In conclusion, the are only two possible reasons for a person not to believe: a) they either don't look at any of this stuff, or b) they don't want to accept it because they would be admitting that someone could write something that is completely beyond them.
