I liked getting spankings... I was a sado-erotic-mashochist.

Not really...

But I like them in hindsight, and in fact I remember only ever getting spanked twice, once by my mom and the other time jokingly by my kindergarten teacher where he would lay us on his lap and-

oh god...

Canadian Nazism is a polite ideology, ok?
"Into the boxcar now... there you go. Oh, watch your head. Here, let me help you... Yep, showers are right through there. No problem at all."

Spanking should not be the first resort of a parent, nor should it be relied upon regularly. We know enough about child psychology that any worthwhile parent could learn how to control their kids without hitting them.

However, I do recognize that sometimes a situation gets out of hand or needs to be controlled quickly, and that spanking the child may be the appropriate course of action.

Signatures are for little kids.

I give my kids time outs and it works fine. If I start counting to 3 they stop what they're doing.

Sure I'd like to spank them, but they do nothing to deserve it.

"Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe." -- Albert Einstein

I am pretty sure that psychology has shown that corporal punishment is the not the best method and that there are better solutions that parents can use. I am pretty sure that it can often have many negative side effects.

If I ever have kids I would never use corporal punishment. My mom used to hit me a lot and I still have some scars from them. I also flinch from most physical contact even when people try to hug me (I can only assume that a lot of that is from it). I know that doesn't happen to most people but those are some personal reasons why I would never use it.

I was spanked twice and turned out fine. It was only when I did something really bad.

;)

My parents gave me the belt and I have never been in trouble at school or with other parents.

Face it. If you're not willing to discipline your kid, you're a failure.

the only time my parents ever spanked me was whenever I really -blam!- up, I mean REALLY -blam!- up.

and it worked, extremely well.

Why didn't Frodo just stick the ring up his ass?

Because Sam would keep turning invisible.

I was spanked and all that and I love my parents. without it it turns the kid into some feral kid that never follows rules.

I'll discipline my child just like my parents to me, I want them to do what their told and not be a little -blam!-.

Studies have shown that spanking can actually lower IQ. If that isn't abuse then I don't know what is.

Besides, it is my belief that parents are free to raise their children how they see fit, but I also believe spanking should not be necessary for parents doing a good enough job.
Really? I'd love to see the study. Did they give any kind of an explanation, or was it raw data?
