Why is this sequence of numbers and letters important? This signal was over 30 times louder than the normal resonance of deep space. It was observed for 72 seconds, and never detected again.

It's interesting to me, because the signal originated in the constellation Sagittarius. Could this signal have been of extraterrestrial origin, and if so, what could it possibly mean? Could it have been sent mistakenly in our direction by some distant species? Or was it purposely sent our way for deciphering (obviously in a manner in which we currently don't understand)? Very curious, if you ask me.

What they heard

Also is there a video link or some sort of source where I can hear the signal?

I wonder the testicle.

It's the first few letters of a microsoft points code.

Becuase an alien race totally knows English letters and numbers and is totally can not be translated into something else we don't know of

The signal was the sound of a million nerds crying out for the other half of the Halo 4 Mountain Dew double xp code.

The numbers and letters OP, what does it mean?

I am the God Emprah of Mankind.

Deal with it.

If it was extraterrestrials they should've sent more than one line of some code we don't even know.

Crap, what are they going to think if they ever hear us?

Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.

Wasn't it a signal we sent out but somehow bounced back to us?

Why Bungie, why would you do this?! - Halo Community

The circled alphanumeric code 6EQUJ5 describes the intensity variation of the signal. A space denotes an intensity between 0 and 1, the numbers 1 to 9 denote the correspondingly numbered intensities (from 1.000 to 10.000), and intensities of 10.0 and above are denoted by a letter ('A' corresponds to intensities between 10.0 and 11.0, 'B' to 11.0 to 12.0, etc.). The value 'U' (an intensity between 30.0 and 31.0) was the highest detected by the radio telescope, on a linear scale it was over 30 times louder than normal deep space.[1] The intensity in this case is the unitless signal-to-noise ratio, where noise was averaged for that band over the previous few minutes.

I just copied that from the your wiki page link.

The numbers and letters simply describe the intensity variation of the signal. That's not the intriguing part. What's intriguing is the fact that what they found is equivalent to hearing a crash cymbal in a library.

No, Hitler wasn't the first person to ever use a radio.

They are the intensity of the signal, in alphanumeric code, like hex. They are not a message embedded in the signal, they weren't Morse Code or binary characters. Imagine a light that gets brighter and dimmer, then brighter still. That is the intensity variations they detected, not an embedded signal.

oh that. They found more radio waves. It's constant now.

Scientists believe it is highly unlikely due to the fact that it would have not only been nearly undetectable if that was the case, but the spectrum on which it was discovered (1420 MHz) is protected spectrum, meaning transmissions are forbidden due to it being reserved for astronomical research purposes. The only other explanation is that it would somehow be of Military origin.
