OP doesn't realize he is limiting his search for marriage by not dating.

OP could have found his wife, his soulmate, in high school perhaps but he lost the chance by taking a "high road" or not dating girls under the misguided notion that it "harms" them.

well for one, breaking a girl's heart is something that I never want to do again. and I would never want to take away a girl's innocence just for fun. sex is something that I want to save for marriage. I think that sex is more than fun. Something special between me and my future wife.

Well then that's you and your values. Unfortunately not everyone runs on the same viewpoint as you.

why doesnt everyone value sex as something that should be for marriage only? why is it always "just for fun"?

  • 01.04.2013 2:42 PM PDT

Hmmm, I don't know what to say...

I agree with you almost entirely, OP. There's not really a point unless you and the person you are dating are truly in love and you know the relationship will be worthwhile and will last a long time.

That is actually why I didn't date before I was 18.

which reason exactly?

I didn't think anything would last.

So are you never going to date again because you don't want to break a girl's heart? Do you think that the next girl you date will be "the One" and so you'll never have to break a girl's heart again?

And when did I say anything about sex? I'm talking about dating.

I guess you could argue dating in high school is a learning experience. I personally didn't do it. I knew it would end badly, so didn't see the point in trying.

why did you think it would end badly?
>Most high school relationships don't last
>Most people are idiots in high school
>I hadn't even figured out what career I wanted at that time

So you would rather grow in maturity at the expense of your purity, innocence, and heart? I dont understand.

Um I don't quite know what you're trying to get at. My reply in a nutshell is that different people mature differently. I am plenty kind and passionate. I have a lot of love to give to others and I love to help people. I grew up pretty much alone so right now is the best time of my life so far. I have great friends and an amazing partner.

I would say I have all of what you said besides "innocence" in the term of virginity.

I mean before you dated your current partner, you lost your purity, innocence and heart(heartbreak). Why would you do that to yourself? Why not wait until you are older and smarter and wiser to date? less heartbreak that way

anyways, it's good to have people around you that love you. that definitely helps in your maturity

It's cute how you thought not knowing what career you want somehow plays into dating. In high school.

Because it doesn't. Your other two points though, I agree with.

Clearly we're compatible if we've stayed together through the transition to college. And I don't graduate college in 4-5 years...I graduate next year. I would get married if we could afford a large enough apartment, a car, a wedding ring/ceremony/honeymoon, etc. Right now it's just not financially possible.

why are you in this thread if you are in college?

Because my relationship is proof that you're wrong.

or the girl you are dating is stupid.

Or you're just a prick that hasn't had the confidence to ask a girl out throughout high school and now sits on a false high-horse claiming high school dating is frivolous.

Sometimes life leaves a $100 bill on your dresser...and it's not til later that you realize it's because it -blam!- you.

Smart and old at 18+. Lol.

For as mature as I was at that age, you have no idea how much you'll grow and mature through your twenties as well. Looking back on it myself...yeah, you'll still have a way to go, I promise.

To answer your questions, I would say dating before 18, like anything else, is a learning experience.

I have dated. I understand how pointless it is, I have never wanted sex in my relationships, and they still all ended badly.

and lol you insult me?

Yes, I insult you, because you've insulted my girlfriend and myself and have shown that you're too immature and arrogant to understand what you're talking about. Clearly you're wrong, but you insist that because you haven't had a successful relationship in high school, that nobody can. Grow up.
