Subject: 6 year old boy suspended for "gun gesture'

Oh for -blam!-'s sake what is wrong with people these days?

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

The boy should be more mature.
He's 6...

I didn't realise age was an excuse to be naive. Be right back, just going to pretend to shoot some guys down the street. It's okay though, because I'm 19 and don't know any better.
I used "gun gestures" while playing games as a little kid. No one got offended, and nothing bad became of it.

Also you expect this kid to be "mature", but 6 year olds aren't mature. And they're not meant to be, because they're still growing up. If he's an adult and still acting this way, then you have a point. But he's not.

More awesome than a shark high-fiving a bear during an explosion...IN SPACE.

"Someone made a gun gesture and said pow, that must mean it's okay for me to get a gun and shoot everyone for no reason!"

Seriously people, kids are stupid, but they're not THAT stupid.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

Don't joke about cooties OP. I had a friend in kindergarten who had to go through an imaginary hand amputation due to a cooties infection. It's funny until it happens to you.

The human element always mucks things up.

What are supposed to do when we play cops n robbers, clap our hands?

I know everything, I've just forgotten most of it.

Also, my XBL Gamertag is 'Wenggh', not 'A Stolen Fruit'.

I lost my imaginary friend to cooties.

It wasn't pretty.

BrAdLeY

oh my, well it is a bit of a sensitive time to be doing gun gestures in a school.

  • 01.04.2013 2:27 AM PDT

It's hard to believe a once-great country like America would ever suspend a six year-old simply for finger-banging his friends at school.

So I was watching the news since I posted this and they mentioned that the kid had already been told that very same day not to do anymore gun gestures after he did it with a pair of scissors.

The suspension was more about his disobedience. The main thing the parents are pissed off about though is that his permanent record now says he threatened to shoot someone.

Okay. But that doesn't mean that you didn't deserve to be suspended too. You're just lucky no one cared.

So what, we should give a free pass to kids for every stupid thing that they do? At what age do you think people should take responsibility for the things that they do?

  • 01.04.2013 2:54 AM PDT

Wow. Just, just wow.

Where was it suggested that kids shouldn't abide by any rules? This wasn't a kid hitting another, it was a gesture. Besides, it didn't mention anywhere that this was a repeated incident. Is the punishment reasonable for a first offense?

How does this demonstrate the necessity of the policy?

And why would I, or anyone, deserve to be suspended for that?

No, we shouldn't. But giving such a large punishment for such a small offense is disproportionate.

So its legal to own a gun and carry it around, but its against the rules for making a pistol with your hands and saying bang bang.

Recon Number 54 -
If they are still looking, then while holding the snarl, I let drool start to drip from my mouth, I stand, curl my fingers into claws and with a hunched over crouch, I then make slow and deliberate steps towards them. When I get close enough, I let them hear my agonized and gasping growls and then, if they continue to stare, when I get within arm's reach? I kiss them on the nose, and run away giggling.

So first they ban rough games on the playground, like Bulldog.
Then they ban all the other contact games kids used to play, with detentions if they play them.
Now they are banning non-contact cowboys and injuns?

Is it any wonder all kids do is play video games?

*I know this is slightly unrelated to the news article but is still relevant*

They suspended a kid for pointing his fingers and going 'pow'...

The parents should find another school because the teachers there clearly are barking up the wrong tree.

Country: United States.
State: Pennsylvania.
County: Warren.
I graduated from high school on June-11-2011. I'm 19 right now. I'm turning 20 in December. I like playing video games, and board games. I like reading Sci-Fi, and World War II novels, and what not.

"There is nothing better in the world than being better at a video game than someone else....oh wait"

I completely back up the school on this. In DBZ Vegta did a gun gesture with his hand and then he said "bang." A laser beam shot from it and killed a Namek. That school was worrying about the safety of those kids. They knew what could have happened.

That's pretty stupid, even if it was for disobedience and not the gun gesture.
