If all goes well it will also cost less for fuel since your using less to.

So would you trust a car to drive you around automatically? I imagine the older generation would be skeptical and the younger generation would be taught with the systems.

So since most of us here are the middle generation being able to drive but new enough to embrace the tech, how do you feel?

It would be difficult to adjust at first but I imagine afterwards I would get comfy with the idea.

I really hope self driving cars do come to our markets. We really need them.

I'm a dude playing a dude desguised as another dude. I hate heritics, non-logical thoughts and people who are better than I am. People tell me that they like a lot of games, but I hate them all. Whenever I play a video game, I always go crawling back to Halo 3. Never go full retard!

They said they'd have flying cars by now too. My point is, I don't believe it.

California just legalized driverless cars as long as there was a human passenger.

Are they secretly already here?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

They've been testing them here in San Diego for a while now. It's trippy to see a dozen cars, all a foot apart, doing 70 while every passenger is reading a news paper...

It'll be illegal still.

You're not supposed to operate heavy machinery while intoxicated and is often classified as a DUI should the police catch you doing so.

An autonomous car counts as heavy machinery.

Aren't self-driving cars now legal in California?

I don't even think it'll be five years. Could be even sooner. I wouldn't mind it but I'd rather just have it as a better form of cruise control for longer journeys on the motorway. I'd still rather drive manually any day of the week.

I'm excited about these cars. So many benefits, with no drawbacks. Anyone who says "OMG no i like to drive and continue to risk the lives of those around me for no reason" need to get over themselves.

None that I can think of. Granted you might decide to take a nap and accidentally catch the wheel, which could be disastrous.

I'd still rather be in control of my car fully, unless, like I said, I'm doing long-haul journeys. Driving is, to me, one of the few escapes I have.

Anything like that could easily be protected against. Maybe lock the wheel when in auto or something like that. There aren't any real drawbacks, and I'm sure that there are other things that you can do to 'escape'.

I would rather trust myself than a robot. It would be good for the morons though.

The inability to be able to work on these cars. I'm sure these things are going to be pretty high tech, so it would probably require a mechanic. Some people can't always afford to take their car to the mechanic, and have to do the work themselves. These cars would probably be too complicated to work on, and that to me is a drawback. Also what controls these cars? What if that system fails? Automated systems can fail and that can be very dangerous.

It is much more dangerous for the human driver to fail which is much more probable than a system failing. And I guess that the mechanic thing could be considered a drawback, but it's a small one.

Small to you maybe but it's a big one to me. Anyway the reason we have so many accidents is because of a -blam!- drivers education. We need to have stricter drivers ed, and harsher driving laws. We need to teach people that driving is a privilege not a right like most thing it is.
