Oh my god. How can something have less than zero joules of energy!!!???

*Head explodes...*

Because your science teacher lied when they said " Zero kelvin = zero energy."

That -blam!-. I'm going to stab her. But isn't temperature a measure of kinetic energy of a system? If you think about it, temperature is a measure of thermal energy which is the same thing as the kinetic energy of the particles in the system. No thermal energy means so kinetic energy means no energy, right?

Well, once again, humans were wrong.

As opposed to cats being wrong? What a stupid comment.

When people draw the edge of the world, someone always finds a way past it.

Size of the universe for example. Just because we don't see or calculate more, does not mean that there is not.

Lt. Dan I brought you some ice cream. Lt. Dan.. ice creaaam!

And for this reason, I laugh at those who say that the light-speed barrier cannot be broken.

Generalizations.

Read the comments. A point at which there is no energy still doesn't exist in this universe.

Requoted and edited for page cutoff.

I've long since given up understanding science.

Dude, I've been saying it for years. Science might as well be black magic. With the advent of quantum physics and quantum mechanics it seems literally anything is possible. Think about it. Scientists just 20 years ago would have laughed you out of the room for suggesting that something could go BELOW absolute zero. Today, people just shrug and say, "Figures."

I actually believe this. I'm convinced. Anything is possible. A sufficiently advanced intelligence could have near-godly levels of control over matter and energy. In a few hundred years we might be able to morph into unicorns and beam our nuts to Mars.

We are ants living in a huge world that we barely understand. Every time we think we've figured out what's going on, some crazy bastard comes along and discovers something that shakes everything up.

Just wait, one day a warp drive is going to be invented.

Don't count your chickens before they hatch here, science still has rules. Unless your nuts are quantum sized (lol), they aren't getting beamed anywhere.

Yes. I'm saying that all of these new discoveries in quantum science make it clear to me that there's a lot humanity doesn't know about the universe and that a lot of the things we think we know about it could easily be wrong. I was making a point with comedy. (Although I do believe we'll make important discoveries and huge technological leaps in the next few hundred years that we can't even conceive of right now.)

It's a'me, Sesto

are you guys dumb? the temperate goes below 0 all the time. i just checked the weather, right now outside it's -4°C. it's not like surprising it goes under 0.

My point is that no one there is no temperature less than absolute zero. In fact, the concept of "negative temperature" (not less than 0 K) has been known for quite a while. Maybe I should have cut down your post to simply this:

"Scientists just 20 years ago would have laughed you out of the room for suggesting that something could go BELOW absolute zero. Today, people just shrug and say, "Figures.""

Quantum definitely leads us to a strange and exotic world but there are still rules.

Could be a quantum error. If you know the position on the needle of your thermometer, you don't know the velocity, ya know?
