Subject: There is no football in "football"

While I hate both footballs, the English football is the real football, with the American crap being Handegg.

Seriously, every other country's word for football is something similar to "Football". Spanish is "futbol", French is "le foot", yet Americans go and derp it up by calling it..."Soccer".
The British came up with the name "Soccer". It was also the original name for the sport.

Oh...OK...

Football is far more precise and planned. It takes every single player being on point and outplaying the other team in their position. There are far more variables involved in getting the ball downfield to score.

I think of planning as more strategic than skill based. I'll admit that NFL is probably the most strategic of the athletic sports and is comparable to ballet in its orchestration.

Whether it's more precise is debatable. Proper football takes an inredible amount of precision. Being able to thread a pass, with your feet, through the proverbial eye of a needle takes a hell of a lot of precision.

Football (i.e. soccer) takes more skill.

While the name itself is weird, American football is better than English football.

Why? Because the players in American football aren't cry babies and cry and fall on the floor when they're tapped.
which is why they're wearing 40 tonnes of armour..

In soccer you have set pieces, tactical free kicks, positioning, man marking, formations. Soccer is a game of possession and control. It requires skills to make the perfect through ball, or corner, or cross, or to bend it in the far post.

American Football is also a game of possession and control of the ball, I would say even more so because you only get 3 (4 realistically but that down gets used more often as a throwaway to punt) chances to move the ball before possession will change hands. So it takes skill and strategy on every tier of the game, coaching has to call the right plays, and they have to be able to execute flawlessly. If one player makes a mistake then everything else can crumble.

You know what is fun? When you actually google things. Soccer was a word created by the British for the sport they now refer to as "football".

The exact same thing can be said for soccer. Except mistakes are more detromental, not only that in soccer you have to control the pace at which the game is flowing

While the name itself is weird, American football is better than English football.

Why? Because the players in American football aren't cry babies and cry and fall on the floor when they're tapped.

American Football is just rugby with loads of padding and ridiculous helmets.

Who are the cry-babies again?

lel
Rugby is FAR better.

I don't see why 'Murica calls football soccer. American football should be called soccer if anything, and just call actual football football like every other country does.

Why are we fighting over this? Soccer, football, who gives a damn! We should be calling it what it really needs to be called (along with most other football games sans Aussie rules and rugby):

boring.

Also, gridiron (American and Canadian football) is called "football" because it is a derivative of rugby, which is a derivative of association football, or as it was commonly abbreviated, "soccer". All three of these games are grouped in an entire family of sports called football (which, in its original meaning, just meant you didn't play the sport on horseback).

When I watch soccer I just don't see as much variety in the different positions. At least compared to american football in which each position is completely different.
