Subject: Xbox Live Gold No Longer The Gold Standard.

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

Posted by: BerzerkCommando
We shouldn't even have to pay to play games online. We already paid for the game so we shouldn't have to pay extra just to play the other half. If they are going to make us pay for Live than the 360 games should be half the price because of it. That's like buying a car. Even though you bought the radio that's included in it. If you want to use it you have to pay.
Yes, we should pay to play games online, because doing so requires hardware and other resources that we do not provide ourselves. If you want free multiplayer, round up some friends for system link. If you want MS/XBL to do it for you, well why shouldn't you have to pay for that service?

Halo is there only real card left to play. And it's dwindling.

CoD is more popular on Xbox though. That game alone could probably hold them up.
The coming next generation of consoles could eat into that though. Assuming the cost of the consoles (X720 and PS4) and games are the same or comparable, if players see that they can play their COD on the X720 for $60 a year or on the PS4 for $0 a year, when it comes time to upgrade, they're going to get a PS4.

If they are both comparable in price then I will go with Sony. The PS3s ridiculous price on release sort of turned everyone off, even after they dropped the price everyone already had an Xbox..

Agree 100% with the article, and have been for awhile.

Gold is ridiculous.

If (due to consumers comparing the competition and speaking with their wallets and their feet) stop subscribing, then and only then would ANY company consider changing their business model.

This is the saddest part. I'm not renewing mine and feel bad for ever griefing people who refused to pay for XBL in my upcoming renewal period.

It takes a lot of PC gaming exposure before you can look at both the Xbox and XBL and just realize how horrible it all is.

Everything really started going downhill with the blocky dashboard with ad's. I remember everyone getting mad, but not many actually did the one true thing you can do about it.

Changes like "Everyone end their subscriptions and demand it be free" just seem impossible. Call it a coup or revolution, a protest or walkout. I don't consider the average gamer capable of making such a stand sadly. Even if they, we, you -- should, for the changes that XBL needs. It's not offering any "premium" services anymore. You're getting a cluttered add plagued dashboard that Microsoft is generating additional revenue through, on top of your subscription.

One less subscriber is nothing to them, but I personally know I'll feel better over it.

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

I hope we do have to pay for the next generation Xbox console.

I'd say it'll be much less, as an incentive to buy the next generation Xbox console.

Did you knew that JESUSdied for you?

I hate to buy for a gold but as long as they have halo and gears I just don't see them stopping.

La-hoo, Za-her.

I'll bet real money that on the next Xbox, only gold members will be allowed to play used games. Silver members will have to buy activation codes.

As what MS offers for a price is free on every other platform...

Don't be naive; Xbox Live is far superior to Nintendo's and Sony's online services, which is why you pay for it.

Nintendo? yes (maybe not WiiU? haven't seen to much of that but it seemed fine), Sony? No. PSN and XBL are virtually identical.

Except for not being identical at all.

I can't see it happeing. They make money. People continue to sign up (myslef included). Why would they stop? I wouldn't mind it of course. I just don't see Microsoft having any incentive to do so.

Explain? I've used them both extensively, and the only 'plus' to XBL would probably be party chat, which I think made XBL even worse than it was.

I believe the problem with the Wii U's online is that one cannot chat with friends outside of the game they are playing

Other than that I'm not sure

"So- So this means Im just going to be miserable for the rest of time?!"

"No. This means that you have to live life to the fullest. You have one life, live it well. Make sure you die without regrets. Get a new life, new mate, new family. You, out of all people, don't deserve a terrible fate of misery like that. Having nothing to look forward to is good. It makes sure you want to keep on going. Living is a right, not a privilege."

The guy who wrote that article is right.

But I'm not going to stop paying, as much as I want to.

PS+? It's a much better deal than XBL is, and it's not needed at all to access any of the things on the XMB. Now if you're speaking of how you don't need to pay for anything but the games on PC, than go ahead. Yet PS+ makes Gold subscriptions 'benefits' look like garbage.

Now let's get down to business, I don't got no time to play around, what is this?

I'm not renewing my Gold, I have a free 1 month off the dashboard at the moment, and once that's gone, that's it. The only thing XBL has going for it is party chat and Halo, and that's not worth £40 for me.

If Fed Ex and UPS merged into one company, would it be called Fed Up?

I don't want to start another account for a digital number that has no true value in ten years.

Xbox Live is still superior from the PSN (even before when PSN was completely free). Until PSN offers a better package for less, I don't have a reason to leave. I'm happy to pay more for a better service.

Microsoft has been making loads of money off of it throughout all of these years, so why would they make Xbox Live free all of the sudden? To be nice? lol

As strange as it may seem, I'm fairly sure I would not even play xbox at all if I couldn't be in a party chat with friends, while some are playing Skyrim and some are playing FIFA 13.

  • 01.04.2013 1:06 PM PDT

Xbox Live has value to me because my friends still use it . . . and Party Chat. Party Chat is amazing. I use it all the time.

My friends are not on PSN or Nintendo, so I will keep paying for Live, 5 bucks a month is no big deal.

Without The Flood, I wouldn't know what an opinion is.

Honestly it's Gold's premium service style that's driving me to PS3. I mostly stuck around the 360 for Halo, however the direction that series is going in isn't really to my tastes.

Because PS3's online is free, the fighting game community there is typically much more active. So now I find myself on PC/PS3.

Around two years ago I would have cared, but all I really play Xbox for is Skyrim now.
