No. It's all about the money, money, money...

Well... until someone else can offer a service that is par to Xbox LIVE- people will keep paying.

Bungie doesn't like French on their site.

I don't think MS will get rid of the gold. They make so much money of it as is. It would be nice though.

"Thoughts are the shadows of feelings; always darker, emptier, and simpler."

I have my Gold account just so that I can play games with my friends (who can't afford gaming PCs). If it weren't for that, I'd switch over to PC gaming completely.

Steam FTW

Currently studying Computer Science & Software engineering. Hope to work on mobile devices of the future! When a certain game's credits roll, look out for my name! ;)

You will -blam!- bricks when you see what game it is! =)

I'd love to see it go, but I am pretty sure that it will remain in place until Gaming PCs will become as cheap as the Gold membership.

Xbox Live Gold is a joke. It's pretty disgusting Micro$oft charges for something that should be free.

As long as consumers are willing to pay for LIVE, MS will continue to charge for it.

Haven't paid for live since 07, don't plan on starting up again either.

No it won't be, and also I don't think microsoft sucks because they charge for a service. As long as you have a minimum wage job $60 freaking dollars isn't a lot. I worked clearing out a storage unit for my grandmother and earned $200 bucks and I'm going to use the money for a gaming PC.

He just used the words 'Microsoft' and 'free' in the same sentence.

What about the Crimson Map Pa-

Halo3Planet, the place for all things Halo 3..

Need help finding skulls, make sure to go here.

Microsoft has lost money on console sales from the moment they launched. It's a loss leader. They planned to make those losses up through XBL, DLC, games, and other subscription services. If you don't want to pay for XBL, then you'd be paying more money per console anyway.

Yes, I'm the guy who had the Flood admit to being furries.

I'm actually considering not renewing gold this year. I hardly ever play multiplayer on the 360 anymore. PC gaming is my go to now.

Also, it seems quite a few people didn't read the article, the fact we need to pay even more money to get features from a game we already paid in full is absolutely ridiculous, as well as segregating the community (silver/gold). They don't have to make Xbox Live completely free, but make it so next gen gold is like playstation plus, you get rewarded with stuff, and for a free account you still get to play the games you payed for.

A7x FoREVer!

The next gen Xbox will probably incorporate the same Xbox Live service we have now. Why would Microsoft abandon a service they collect millions of dollars from each year?

I couldn't think of anything creative, so I just wrote this.

Why would they stop?

If they did that, then you'd be paying an additional $50 (or so) per console. The console itself acts as a loss leader.

I'm either a fool or an inteligent man, depending on how sleepy or angry I am.

I originaly made an account on 07.27.2007 but I wanted to link my GT and made this account. Don't forget your passwords!

If I can play my game online for free and have to pay for 100% of the other Gold-only services, I would love it.

We shouldn't even have to pay to play games online. We already paid for the game so we shouldn't have to pay extra just to play the other half. If they are going to make us pay for Live than the 360 games should be half the price because of it. That's like buying a car. Even though you bought the radio that's included in it. If you want to use it you have to pay.
Yes, we should pay to play games online, because doing so requires hardware and other resources that we do not provide ourselves. If you want free multiplayer, round up some friends for system link. If you want MS/XBL to do it for you, well why shouldn't you have to pay for that service?

You don't see Steam having issues with running MP servers without having to pay a yearly/monthly subscription to play online.

But I'd prefer to do a one time payment than a yearly subscription.

For example:

-If console was 500 euros at launch with free live...
TOTAL: 500 Euros.

-If console was 250 Euros at launch...
-If we assumed person played for all 7 years at 50 euros a year...
TOTAL: 550 Euros.

I'd prefer the expensive consoles.

It would be worth the cost if more games had server lists. I am getting beyond sick of the host system. Until then, PS3 offers the same thing for free, as does a lot of other outlets.

There are better alternatives. It's only for Xbox that you HAVE to buy Gold. It's either get it or no online play, which limits it greatly.

Compared to PS plus the benefits of Live are
Better chat options
Better party options

Now the benefits of PS+
Cheaper than live
Discounted downloads (if you download semi regularly the service can pay for itself)
3 or 4 games each month as part of the subscription. Ranging from indie games to triple A titles for both Vita, PS3, PSP, and PS1. Recently Gravity Rush and Uncharted Golden Abyss were added.
60 minutes full game trials
No annoying ads cluttered everywhere, cleaner interface.
New Free avatars and themes updated every few months.

It's a no brainer. And like others are saying for PC there is steam and it's awesomeness. But they know you will pay it because you pretty much have to, so they charge you. We shouldn't support a company like that, it's why I buy multiplatform games for PS3 now.

Not to mention people are being a bit blind here and not seeing all of the variables. Yes, providing online is a cost, but it does generate extra revenue and increase popularity and thus purchases of games.
