Online multiplayer is the only reason why I am paying for Xbox Live Gold.

There's no way to get back experiences you missed.
So start right now today and risk furiousness for bliss.

I honestly don't mind paying for XBL. $60 a year isn't bad at all.

Don't get me wrong, it would be great if it was free, but I just don't see MS ever doing that.

wes smith

If anything it would be cheaper, $30-$40 instead of $60 a year or discounts on DLC or movies etc,but even that is very very very unlikely.

As others have said if you ran a company and was getting close to or more then a billion dollars a year on just the member fee would you want to lose that?

You're still missing variables. If Xbox Live were free more people might own Xbox and more people would be able to purchase more games. Would the cost equate to about the same? I have no idea, but it would be more fair to consumers and help us stick around longer.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

They better drop the goddamn price.

Agree 100% with the article, and have been for awhile.

Gold is ridiculous.

Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

Well look how the whole free online for PS3 is working out for Sony. They are losing money every quarter, pretty soon they will have to start charging just like Microsoft does

Halo is there only real card left to play. And it's dwindling.

CoD is more popular on Xbox though. That game alone could probably hold them up.
The coming next generation of consoles could eat into that though. Assuming the cost of the consoles (X720 and PS4) and games are the same or comparable, if players see that they can play their COD on the X720 for $60 a year or on the PS4 for $0 a year, when it comes time to upgrade, they're going to get a PS4.

The Dildact will never buy Sony products.

I've actually been fine without paying Gold for like a year and 6 months now, and nothing has really pissed me off. Not until finding out Spartan Ops is a gold service, which makes absolutely no sense. I guess we might as well just make everything that uses any online feature a gold service from now on.

So, everything.

1. Oh surprise surprise, someone in a socialist country asking for something to be made free. UK, I am disappoint.

I have actually just lost brain cells.

OT: I wish they would. But you dirty American capitalists hate the working class. (That last bit was a joke.)

Here is the Slayer of Cake. May he find piece in death after a life full of violence and unrest battling the tyranny of desserts.

They make too much money from Gold subscriptions for them to even consider making it free.

Yes, we should pay to play games online, because doing so requires hardware and other resources that we do not provide ourselves.

Aren't the game developers the ones that control the servers though? For example EA shut down the servers to some of their games and Sega shut down the ones for Chromehounds. So if that's the case we are paying to play on servers that PSN gets for free.

If you want free multiplayer, round up some friends for system link.
Even if you are doing that you are still playing half the game. The whole point of MP nowadays is to play online with people.
Well why shouldn't you have to pay for that service?
Let's say I get my Xbox just for entertainment. If I want to use things like Netflix. Not only do I have to pay Netflix a fee, but I also have to have Gold. So I have to pay an extra fee just to use Netflix. Why should that person have to pay for Gold when they are not going to play online?

It doesn't have to be free, but there is no reason why it can't be cut down by half. They made enough money off of it where they are not losing anything major. There are also those adds that give MS money to advertize their things on the dashboard.

  • 01.05.2013 4:57 AM PDT

I don't care what anyone says, that price for an entire year of practically limitless entertainment is as reasonable as it gets.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Exactly this.
