Subject: OK, I tried. What is the difference between electronic and Dubstep?

Studies show that men think about sex every 7 seconds. I do my best to eat hotdogs in under 6, just so things don't get weird.

OK, I listened to some today. I had to take Mrs Charlie to work, and on my way back I got stuck in traffic. So I put on the electronic station on XM, and they were having the Dubstep Hour. I listened the whole way home, and its techno.

That's all it is, just techno. In fact, it sounds like rave music from the 90's.

So, would you kindly explain to me why Dubstep is different from run of the mill electronic music?

Brilliant.

OT: When I think of electronic music, I usually think of songs like this.

Dubstep goes more like this.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Can someone also explain the differences between hardstyle, house, drumstep, etc?

  • 01.04.2013 11:51 AM PDT

(^}>

I had a guy explain it to me once. He used lots of confusing words like 'synth transistor wobbles' and stuff like that.

"You are the last of your kind: bred for combat, built for war. You're the master of any weapon, pilot of any vehicle, and fear no enemy"

More wubs and dubs, my friend.

Usually dubstep is for a rave and the classic "drop" at the pinnacle of it.

If I ever see anyone post in a thread "That's your opinion", I immediately lose all respect for them.

Also, if you're discussing a topic with me and you resort to name calling, pull "life checks", or just call anything you don't agree with retarded without giving legitimate reasons, don't expect me to take you serious in anyway what so ever.

I used to know the answer to this. Something to do with the tempo and downbeats, but I don't remember.

Its rave music. I remember being a young man in my twenties dancing in Vegas with a mini glow stick in my mouth to music just like this.

I thought it was supposed to be different, its not.

Son, I am disappoint.

Erm, electronic is the umbrella term under which dubstep falls.

Dubstep is a runoff of garage music which has a noticeably less regular beat than house and techno which mainly have that repeated boom-tsh pattern. Garage drum patterns are either more spaced out or sort of "shuffling".

Dubstep itself has this characteristic drum pattern and a focus on sub-bass. Most "dubstep" you will hear on the radio seems to ignore the sub-bass and replace it with "dirty" distorted wobbly bass.

Also contrary to popular belief, a drop is not an essential part of dubstep.

Well unless you're 60 I don't know why that surprises you. Dubstep has been around for a while, it's not just some new thing that has come about in the past 5 years so you probably were listening to it. And yes there is a difference between Dubstep and electronica. I'll have to give examples just give me a moment.

Dubstep

Electronica/House

That's it, I was in raves in Vegas nearly 10 years ago. The music they were playing was very similar to this.

If it's so similar, why have all the different names for it? Why not call the whole genre techno, and have each band have their own unique style?

Its confusing when you guys label and then sublabel everything as though its different. These are nothing more than contrived dividers.

Fullmetal

Easiest way to put it: the different sounds. Different sounds are created using different tempos, mixers, ect. Each EDM (Electronic dance music) Category has is own use of these things, and is classified as such. Dubstep for example, usually has a 140 BPM range and deep baselines. House on the other hand is usually a 4x4 beat (listen to the music, 4 parts, then it repeats or goes to the next part) centered around drums and synth basslines. I could go deeper, but there's a lot to explain and it gets quite dull :P

Nope, don't even have to look at it if it's by Crookers. That's a style called Electro House.

Nah, that one is actually dubstep. I checked.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

I have no idea for certain but I think Dubstep is just electronic music, but with a very fast or frequent beat.

I'm just starting to get in to the whole electro scene. I haven't been to a rave yet, but I've hung out with molly a few times. Anyway, I really like Crookers. Any other similar artists you could recommend?

And how easy is it to be a DJ?
