Subject: OK, I tried. What is the difference between electronic and Dubstep?

"So- So this means Im just going to be miserable for the rest of time?!"

"No. This means that you have to live life to the fullest. You have one life, live it well. Make sure you die without regrets. Get a new life, new mate, new family. You, out of all people, don't deserve a terrible fate of misery like that. Having nothing to look forward to is good. It makes sure you want to keep on going. Living is a right, not a privilege."

Brilliant.

OT: When I think of electronic music, I usually think of songs like this.

Dubstep goes more like this.

Your husband thinks I'm better in bed then you. Just saying.
Suuuuuuuure...

OP - Techno sounds nothing like Dubstep. Like, nothing like it whatsoever.

I sometimes feel like you guys try to be edgy or hipster just for the same of provoking a reaction from someone.

OT: Electronic music is the main stem. Dubstep is a branch off from that. All Dubstep is Electronic music, but not all Electronic music is Dubstep.

What are these first person words you speak of?

Dubstep for example, usually has a 140 BPM range and deep baselines.

I'm sorry, but that's completely wrong. Dubstep is characteristically slow, and an offshoot of garage/2-step and Dub. I have need heard a Dubstep song that goes 140bpm.

Christ, Drum & Bass sometimes doesn't get that fast. What songs are you referring to?

  • 01.04.2013 1:19 PM PDT

All Electronic isn't dubstep, but all dubstep is electronic.

Electronic music is the main log on the electronic tree, while Dubstep is just a small branch, just like how Thrash Metal is a branch of Metal.

Dubstep is a subgenre of electronic. Electronic is equivalent with "rock" or "hip-hop/rap". There's plenty of different styles that fall under it.

Dubstep is usually characterized by its slower BPM, sub-bass, and "wobble". Similarly, another electronic genre like Trance is characterized by it's persistent, repetitive up-tempo beat.

The human element always mucks things up.

One is music and the other is composed entirely of screeching farts.

  • 01.04.2013 1:32 PM PDT

Um, electronic has no wubs...I guess.

...which is still music, actually. "Found" styles of art [usually music or visual art] is when non-musical sounds are compiled together in a musical/artistic fashion.

  • 01.04.2013 1:33 PM PDT

This is dubstep.

Be sure to tell everyone how cool you are. If you don't tell them, they won't know.

I'm assuming you're just trying to act dumb and upset people, but this is incredibly misguided. If you took two seconds to think, or even then if you couldn't wrap your head around it, google it.

Can't tell if dumb or stubbornly ignorant or trying to cause trouble.

Why does everyone in here link -blam!- examples of dubstep.
This is Dubstep

Not the distorted wobbly wubby crap. I thought dubstep was a joke until i heard burial and absolutely fell in love with it, its sticks more to its dub roots.

I wouldn't really say Burial is all that dubby, he's a lot more step. If that makes sense to you at all.

Kode9, Digital Mystikz and Mala are dubbier.

  • 01.04.2013 2:27 PM PDT

Electronic is a constant beat that repeats over with no subtle drop in noise or bass basically. It probably can have two beats alternate or repeat.

Dubstep it has the wub wub in it always and has at least one significant drop.

Well, thats how I figure it goes. Isn't Dubstep a genre based off of electronic?

What a waste....

Not all that different, really.

Most dubstep is just noise.

"Guys, if we make it REALLY LOUD and add TONS OF BASS, people will like it!"

"Of course! MORE BASS!"

"Oops, I dropped it."

And so, dubstep was born.

Yeah true, burial was the wrong example of dubby. Great regardless, though the coki link prolly fits that description a bit better.

Dubstep is a sub-genre of what is commonly refered to as Electronic Dance Music.

See, i disagree with this. It depends on who you look at. It seems like the dubstep popularized in america is more like this. A lot of people listening to it prior generally trash that dirty wubby sorts. It's as if we're all talking about two different things.

Check out my deviantART page

Some things I like:
Video Games
Anime
Art

The difference is that in Dubstep they actually drop the bass.

(I could be right, but I really have no idea)
