One does not choose a destiny, his destiny is bestowed, shaped and formed, from the soul.

Let me explain what I mean by this. We don't have a country that controls a large mass of land, and that is constantly gaining new land. Has this idea died out? Or is it impossible now because of things like the UN.

Not a political discussion, just asking a question and wondering how you guys feel about it.

Generalizations.
Helping idiots hate other idiots since people have existed.

Because nukes

Large-scale warfare and nuclear weapons.

"So- So this means Im just going to be miserable for the rest of time?!"

"No. This means that you have to live life to the fullest. You have one life, live it well. Make sure you die without regrets. Get a new life, new mate, new family. You, out of all people, don't deserve a terrible fate of misery like that. Having nothing to look forward to is good. It makes sure you want to keep on going. Living is a right, not a privilege."

US is an empire. They just don't use that word to look nice.

Ad Infinitum

Alliances. People don't like invading countries that have a Superpower as an ally.

Facebook.

Seriously.

There are we just call them different things now. Strong countries still pick on weak ones. Just look at what the West is doing to Iran even though we know for certain that they're not making nuclear missiles. We just don't want them to have the capacity to.

  • 01.04.2013 1:02 PM PDT

It's almost a shame, really.

If one of the Empires had managed to conquer the world, then we may have had world peace and prosperity by now, due to a one world government.

iPhone 4S 64GB Black.

Because we have become more civilised and educated. We no longer strive for power, instead, encouraging human rights, education, science, etc.

Super Power countries aren't empires, they are just well grounded countries.

There would be revolts, war will never stop. Look at the Roman Empire and how that worked out.

See: America using an American company to extract diamonds they found in Afghanistan.

There is no American company mining diamonds in Afghanistan and even if there were that is not characteristic of an empire.

Because nukes

This^

If I'm not mistaken, World War 2 was the last war that had a major power fighting and taking land. At the end of the war, nukes were finished and not long after, everyone else got nukes. So now, going to war, means possible total destruction(or near total destruction) of all nations involved and nobody wants to risk that(yet). Nukes aren't the only weapons of mass destruction out there, and possibly not even the most frightening.
