Lady Astor: "If I were your wife I'd put poison in your coffee."
Winston Churchill: "If I were your husband I'd drink it !"

Before I post this I would just like to say that I'm spitballing. I was discussing this in the following thread and I thought it deserved its own space to talk about it.

What if the forums could have an elected community role like how for example ninjas are moderators, DeeJ is the community manager how about a role that is elected from the community when the new game announcement is made?

Maybe a member could be elected to interview a member of the development team old/new in relation to there time spent at bungie, the forums or any question they think the community would like to ask or maybe something similar to mail sack that this elected person is allowed to ask one question a week that has to be answered

What do you guys think? Too ambitious? No need for something like that - are we content enough as is?

As again I'm spitballing if anything what could a community elected role be?

I find the concept of a community election interesting.
As to the election of what ..I leave this open for discussion.

Old school Bungie, born and raised,
In the Septagon is where I spend most of my days.
Relaxin', maxin', posting all cool,
Talking about Halo, life and some school.
Got in one little argument, and the mods got scared,
they said "You're gonna get banned and your member title'll be bare!"

I don't think the idea is intrinsically bad, but this community is not tight-knit. Organizing and appealing to enough people simply won't happen, in my opinion.

Instead, I do and would like to see more people stepping up and taking on roles. In the past, this method has been quite fruitful with Helveck and community carnage events, the bathroom reader quite some time ago, Foman and CompoundIntelligence and Duardo's FAQ on Bnet titles (both were created and established well before (and arguably led to) their advancements to moderators).

Would I love to see some community leaders participating, organizing, and delivering great content to the masses? Absolutely. Do we need to vote for it? No, because it should go to the hard working creative types, not those that can get everyone to speak the loudest.

I agree, although I think that when the forums pick up again in the new release there will be an influx of members and maybe this alone will tie the knot for this community

Again, I agree, but what that will be? who knows, I guess we will find out

The group system in the classifieds is not what it used to be, I personally would love to do something that people could interact with or discuss but the availability of members and bringing people together is difficult - especially with whats left in the forums, I think that If I made a post in the classifieds it will left to rot.

Or if it was posted anywhere else it would be greeted with either pessimists, people who are legitimately interested and others who would post witty remarks to laugh among themselves

Just had a thought.

It could be helpful to establish community arbiters. Three or five community members who have long established themselves to be level-headed, calm, and fairly unbiased could serve as a group to comment on disputes, especially those over smaller issues (this person is being irrational, is trolling, etc). These problems are petty, and we absolutely don't need the moderators policing our activities on such a level, but having some members who behave in a way that represents the community and its best interests could be asked to step in and smooth things over. No need to PM the mods or the web team, let's just show 'em we can handle this crap on our own.

Again, just an idea.

It is a nice idea.
I don't have ideas on what the role should be though, OP.

Not all community work happens on bungie.net, and quite a lot of it both on and off site goes by unnoticed.
It would be interesting if the idea was given the green light.. but I doubt that it would happen.

Ineresting argument, prometheus25. But the suggestion was elections and you wrote that you liked the idea. I like the concept of more democracy in Bungie.net and I imagine this is what you were refering to as well.

Maybe some of this community work should start being highlighted within the forums, community spotlights?

Its an interesting idea, also not a bad one.

Different things would have to come together though for something like this to work.. You never know it could work.

Maybe they have even had the idea for something like this.

But again its an idea and now has me thinking on how it would look and how it could work.

Only after we ban Bricypoo.

Voting on Bunie.net can never be official. It is almost impossible to stop ALTs, some people go through great lengths to make sure people think their ALTS are real people.

If it was done a different way possibly, but the voting system can never be completely glitch free.

Yeah, now that you mention it there are few Destiny blogs already out there which don't much publicity, such a shame. Not to mention your own running commentary of the forums.

The title system was implemented to make people keep one account, maybe it would be wise that the vote would be in text not a poll and only eligible from people with an active account with a join date before x time etc.

Very good point.

But if there were a group with "established and trusted members of the community who have demonstrated consistent helpfulness and positive contributions" a poll/vote in such a group (especially if large enough and invite only) would be far less likely to be exploited or manipulated as a poll on the mains.

Good idea, maybe the web development team or the ninjas could choose individuals to partake in this vote and the web development team have final say on the candidates etc.

Bungie doesn't like French on their site.

Elected role? So, that means polls? Polls can be fixed with alts and make it unfair. How do you propose how we would elect?

Hmm.. I can only think of one group that fits that profile at the moment. That's a pretty good idea though, but there will always be those members who say 'i wanna vote' and 'dis not fair!' ect. Would everyone really want to put up with all that?

Actually I guess we already do.. >.>

I've also thought about a community elected role but there are some flaws with it. People discussed this in a thread I made a while ago and the issue with an election would be that it would go off of who is more known. Sometimes the most popular member isn't the right person for the job. I wpuld love to see an election one day though..
