Nothing pisses me off more than when I buy a new game, open it up, and the case is either one of two possibilities:

A. It's only two pages long filled with basic controls and legal crap.
I'M LOOKING AT YOU CoD AND GEARS OF WAR!

Or it's:

B. Super thick with 60 pages, but when you open it up it's only ten pages of uninformative crap with the rest being in Spanish, French, Chinese, and in some cases, Russian.
I'M LOOKING AT YOU PERSONA 4 ARENA AND ARMORED CORE V!

Anyone else hate modern day game manuals?

Steam name should be something similar

You will never get a new game and read the game manual on the way home again.

I like how your sub box is full of science and political videos but your recommendations are full of anime girls kissing each other.

Just Zoid being Zoid ^_^

Lies, bro. I got the Persona 4 manual right in front of me.

You must be talking about Arena

...who cares?

Honestly.

The world is full of mysteries, and shares too few of the answers required. An example of which, is how did I end up in the Brute Zone?

Kind of irritates me, GoW3 was when I first truly noticed it.

Rustled Jimmies

I honestly dont see the reason behind a game manual. all games (besides minecraft that i know of) have some sort of tutorial. So why are we wasting paper for something that simple?

Shakes Magic 8 Ball

For old cartridge games, I remember reading through them to learn about the game and how it's going to play.

Now everything is point, click -- kill.

Real talk.

It doesn't really bother me much lately, the Internet usually does a better job at explaining game mechanics than the manual and/or game itself. I'm not really a fan of how Nintendo did the manual for Super Mario 3D Land though.

The Song Of Nephilim

Xenoblade <3

I never bother looking at them.

They have pretty pictures

  • 01.04.2013 2:41 PM PDT

Because all games have in-game instructions on controls and what to do now. Game manuals have no real reason for being made now.

  • 01.04.2013 2:43 PM PDT

I never read game manuals unless I have nothing better to do.

  • 01.04.2013 2:43 PM PDT

Didn't your parents ever buy you a game one time and on the way home you got to read the manual before playing it?

He probably is.

I love heavy game cases. It just feels so solid, like I got my money's worth.

no its legit, i used coordinates, set weapon timers the works.

Where the hell have you been OP? Developers have been saying they were going to be cutting instruction manuals for a while now.

  • 01.04.2013 2:44 PM PDT

Fixed. Yes, I was talking about Arena.

The fall of the Gaming Manual is very sad indeed. Though recently I have taken solace in reversible game covers like in Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and the like. I remember opening the Halo 4 Box, hoping to see an interesting piece of artwork on the reverse side, only to find it said "REMOVE FOR IMPORTANT INFORMATION".

LAME.

I have longer reading pieces with the movies I bought recently.

Seriously...

If I ever see anyone post in a thread "That's your opinion", I immediately lose all respect for them.

Also, if you're discussing a topic with me and you resort to name calling, pull "life checks", or just call anything you don't agree with retarded without giving legitimate reasons, don't expect me to take you serious in anyway what so ever.

hell most games come with in game manuals. I would love to have a game with a manual to read. I remember when I was a kid and after getting a new video game just reading the manual on the car ride home making me that much more excited to play it. Kids won't be able to do that anymore.

Marley: next time try to be a little for inconspicuous.
John: What do you mean?
Marley: John, we grow lots of gear, right?
John: Yeah loads...
Marley: So try not to come back with a wasted girl and a packet of fertilizer!

It's nice to get a bit of backstory maybe or a few snippets of information on enemies you'll be facing. I also used to think that games that came with colour game manuals rather than black and white were just the best thing ever. Lot of memories. Still, I think I prefer in-game tutorials to sifting through a manual
