Subject: Why does everyone want bots?

Everyone here is obsessed with having bots in Halo 3. I think this is a bad idea.

1. Bots are fun. ....... for 20 games, then you can break them down and predict what they're gonna do. Yeah, yeah "Perfect Dark ruled with bots tho!!" Well that was 10 years ago, now try playing Perfect Dark Zero where the bots are incredbly easy to beat. Or Counter Strike where it's 20 bots vs. 3 humans and the humans still win by a long shot.

2. Bots do take up resources. You can't deny that they don't, and people always say they don't because "they make bots for single player too". Well guess what? That's single player. The levels are built to fit in the bots to where they can beat you. In multiplayer it's bulit for free-for-all, so noone (including bots) has an advantage.

The fact is Halo's multiplayer has way too many variables to make a decent bot. If Bungie were to make a bot for Halo it would have to take up alot of resources to include all the variables for Halo. And I think it would be better to include a new map or weapon instead of bots.

And now I'm done.

counter point: make bots and release a few maps. give it about a month and have more maps for download in marketplace! get the best of both worlds.

True, but what about the people without Xbox Live?

And instead of bots wouldn't you rather have Co-Op online?

The only way I think bots would be okay if there was a Single player/Co-op Survival Mode.

You have not played the original Perfect Dark in a while son.. it did not take much skill to defeat them, even at the hardest. Bungie could cook up some kick ass A.I. and make them better then any real 'pro' out there.

Perfect Dark is 9 years old.. feels like yesterday i was just playing it though.. oh wait i was... ah well

i wouldn't mind have online co-op but not gonna lose sleep over it. i really don't care too much about the multiplayer. just hope the campaign is good again. reason i said i don't care about multi is the fact that people are gonna start asking for more maps when 10-12 maps is good enough. strategies are going to slowly single out to best connection and so forth.

this is all just my opinion btw.

This is always something people want because for one people ruin games with there never ending quest to find the cheapest easiest way to kill and out right bring the game as a whole down as with halo2s cheating bridging and so on. Bots are a way of playing the game just not aginst these drags of the gaming world, and wouldnt you like to have a round with some friends once in a while and see how long you can go fighting waves of computers and still have some fun because match making is a ranked place and it brings out the worst in people and not everyone can deal with it or want to deal with it. How many familys play this game online? not many because its not what they want to expose themselfs too it or there kids family, thats the way the game turned into from these petty people that its there goal to destory communitys and online play.

(10:20:17 PM) Pezza: You were the one with the video camera breathing heavily. Of course you saw.

I don't want bots.

Bots will only happen if the Ai is so well developed that it makes sense to include them, this also means that the Ai would take on a new form. With the updates mentioning what sounds like Ai strategy anythings possible. I guess we will have to wait for an announcement or gametime.

I want bots because sometimes I'm bored of campaign and Xbox Live. Then i can team up with marines and own grunts over and over again and here them scream.

Heres why....Its just like games like Oblivion and stuff. The AI can be truly amazing if they make it that way. The 360 has potentials beyond Playstations and the original Xbox and such ppl...plus if they put randomized pre-rendered objects and such in it (refer to threads of interest, 75,000 Combinations topic) then it wont be too easy to predict either. AI used to just follow a predesigned path and strayed from it when they detected you, just to act in a rash or otherwise pretty stupid manner. Well it isnt the same anymore with the 360. Get Oblivion or something and see what I mean, the bots have their own freaking lives basically...traveling all over the continent on their own without pre designed paths.

Try either FEAR, Half Life or Half Life 2. On the hard setting especially.

Çäspër...theres one thing I wan't to thank you for befor disagreeing with you. Thank you for suporting your idea, too many people just say something with nothing to back it up because there slow typing noobs. Anyway. I think bots would be a good feature in multiplayer as long as you can turn them off. It would be good for maches with not alot of people able to join because of server restrictions. There could also be maps desined to use bots and some not. Like some maps are good for veicles and some are for close range. But I do hope it that they will go for cover and try and get the objectives. And it would be nice if you could give them orders to. But bots shoulden't be the backbone of your squad or army. They should be there only to give you things like covor fire, support or defend the flag. But also the 360's hardwere can inprove more than graphics. You can also use some of that power to increase the AIs intelegence. So even on a multiplayer map AI could snipe, drive, do close range and anything smart. even though I wouldn't trust them with my flag they would be good to help nutrilize an outpost so I or a teamate could take it.

The bots in G.R.A.W. were nice, but that was a survival and campaign mode. There arent too many variables (GRAW had a hell of alot too).

I feel bots would be useful, and would add to gameplay. They wouldnt meet your expectations for a human player, but for the average gamer, they would be fun. Especially for those who get tired of 2v2 or 1v1 games.

could a bot grab a flag? could you make a bot get into a hog? can teach the bot to go your secret way and not run across the center? could you tell the bot, "cover me" i really think 16 people is enough for a game and i wouldn't want bots and stuff in mm.

No, you cant, but bots can take fire, bots can make a game more interesting, and bots can provide an apposing team for your 4 players in a game.

Besides, you dont need the bots to drive, they can shoot. Besides, if they can get the bots to plant bombs and other things in Counter Strike 1.6, i feel they can do it in Halo 3.

I think having bots would b stupid, before I had xbox live,I hoped Halo 3 would have bots because none of my friends like Halo and I have no siblings, but now that I have live,I think it would be stupid.

P.S.I like PDZ's bots,but not PD N64's bots.

I think if they built the bots AI to 'think' for itself, bots wold be a wonderful addition. People don't like bots because most developers do a poor job of creating them. But if each bot could look at a situation, and make an intelegent decision, they would be great. (ie: bot sees a sniper on a large map and next to it sees a shot gun from a player it just killed. The bot doesn't just pick up the sniper, it drops the smg, or standard AR for the shotgun.) If the bots were sophistacated enough to do this, they would be a welcome edition.

i agree with ur statement about halo 2 mp being too complex.. the bots weapon choice would be lame.

a thinking computer program is impossible. an a.i. can only do do things based on a series of protocols programmed into it.

Ok, but not think, but choose correctly. The weapons would be weighed differently. The shotgun would be weighed higher than the smg so it picks that up and the sniper because it knows it needs a ranged weapon.

  • 07.08.2006 8:42 PM PDT

The last with pagan blood.
IMMORTAL.

Or they can rip the AI code from campaign and stick it into multiplayer.

I dont think bots should be online. Too much lag.
