Subject: Johnson

Does anyone think that we'll find out how Johnson got off the first Halo by the end of the Halo 3 campaign? Does anyone want to know or find out in H3? Sorry if this has been discussed before.

You have to actually open them, and read them. Just a tip.

Don't talk down to me. I have read all three. Its just been about 10 books read since I read it. Thanks for the note. I'll check it out and re-read it.

If its in the books anyway, why don't you just tell me how he escaped. Is it that long of a story? Can't you break it down to some bare bones events and shed some light for me?

It's in the books, and I think in the comic that's coming out.

So we can all agree, you're telling me that it is in First Strike. I got it right here with me. If anyone knows page numbers, that would cut down on some time. Hope it gets mentioned in the game though.

Ok Im sorry for not being any help but you guys are SO dumb and let me tell you why...Before you ask which book explains how Johnson got off Halo think about this for a second, The Flood took place during Halo CE, meaning it ended right about where they blew up Halo so obviously it wouldn't explain it there. The first book (can't get the name at the moment, lol) happens before the events on Installation 04 so that can't be it, so obviously it would take place in First Strike but sorry for beating such a dead horse :)

Actually I think I will help you now. From what I remember Johnson is rescued along with the other survivors on Halo when MC and Cortana are on that Longsword after Halo blows up they search the area and hear nothing but "Dust and Echoes" and then they find a Pelican with some marines including Johnson aboard.

Thank you for your insight. I will still try to find it in the book. I was not aware of this, but it seemed to me that in the first level of H2 Bungie was still leaving it open to speculation as what Johnson says to the Marine by the elevator. Also I have heard that the books don't exactly go along with Bungie's official story of the Halo universe. Did the books come out before H2? If so, if they explained how he escaped, why be so vague about it by the elevator? Something else is to be found out I believe. Especially considering the legendary ending of the 1st Halo. Johnson lovin on an elite? Remember? I would love all these fun little secrets to be vanquished with H3. I like the books, but I trust the games more when it comes to the story. If you do know all which pertains to what I have spoken about, don't come here and call us dumb, stupid, etc. That is what these forums are for. We are not all experts, we merely wish to further our own Halo Universe knowledge.

the book came out after the game, and bungie says the books are the official halo story.

It is in the books, but apparently there will be a new 'tweaked' version of Sarge's survival in the Halo Graphic Novel. From an IGN interview :

IGN Comics: "Breaking Quarantine" answers one of the questions Halo fans have been asking for the past two years. For those who don't know anything about this story, can you tell us what it's about? Was it important for this story to be told in some form?

Jarrard: This is essentially the story of Sergeant Johnson's escape from the first Halo. When the first game concluded, we were led to believe that the Sarge was overcome by the Flood. Yet, when Halo 2 opens, we see him again back at Earth doing just fine.

Everyone has speculated about what really happened down there in the depths of Halo and this was something we were interested in exploring further. Now, people who have read the Halo novels are going to be quick to point out that an explanation was already given (something along the lines of a genetic condition that made his body undesirable as a Flood host). We struggled with this a lot internally… while we're all big fans of Eric Nylund's Halo novels, we felt that the circumstances surrounding Sarge's survival was something we wanted to re-tell in a slightly different way. One of our goals for the book was to not only expand the fiction into new areas but make a small adjustment to existing lore.

The books don't detail HOW he gets off Halo 04, just that he does with some vague details. The graphic novel will explain how he managed to get a Pelican and fly off, among other things.

Thank you for the insight about the IGN interview. I'm glad to see they are highlighting it in the graphic novel.
