Subject: is halo dead?

It's not dead, but it won't likely reclaim the throne either. It peaked at Halo 3, now it's in a state of equlibrium.

I wanted to become a recognized member of the flood, then I took an arrow in the knee.

How is halo 4 number 2? There's usually less than 100k players on in a day.

A strong, well-developed Halo 5 (or a Halo 6 that the long-time fans/majority of players enjoy) will redeem the franchise in a fashion similar to how Revenge of the Sith made amends for the awful Star Wars prequel trilogy.
I get your point, but bad analogy (ROTS is poop and "makes amends" for nothing). A better example would probably be Resident Evil 4, which changed up a well-established series and turned out being the most adored game in the franchise.

Does anyone have lotion?
*Raises hand*
Is mayonnaise a lotion?

*One of the most popular games out there*

Revenge of the Sith was better than the other two prequels, so even if Halo 6 was better than Halo 4 and Halo 5 (and I mean NOTICABLY better AT RELEASE) then the franchise has been redeemed.

I used the Star Wars analogy because it is eerily similar how Halo and Star Wars have gone down the same path. Both franchises had an amazing near-perfect groundbreaking entry followed by an arguably even better second installment and a third installment that left the series as the king of science-fiction and blockbusters. Then they were both ruined by "spin-offs" (The Ewoks series and Reach) and poor "new" additions (The Phantom Menace and Halo 4).

Eventually the most recent and proclaimed "final" installment was able to set things straight, and I hope that Halo 6, at worst, pulls a Revenge of the Sith. At best, as you said, Halo 6 pulls a Resident Evil 4. Either way, it redeems itself.
