The Pelican is quite ugly and impractical actually.
Assuming that the front of the Pelican is ridiculously armored it is very practical.

I think the true innovation lies in it's ability to operate in vacuum and any sort of atmosphere type.
And the elimination of rotor wash.

Not really. You have little room in the cockpit, and the intakes aren't even necessary on the top if the thrusters are on the sides anyway. It's a lot of unnecessary metal that just weighs it down and probably makes production more expensive.

Actually it does thrust from the rear tail as well, but the intakes are in a very impractical spot.

Oh, in that regard. I don't know too much about aircraft so I will stand down in that regard. As for it's ability to protect its' load I say it's a big success. It's a flying APC.

How do you know what sort of metal the Pelican is built with?

Remember, she has to be air tight or that means decompression for the crew in compromised atmosphere. Oh, the actual composition hasn't been declassified yet but I bet there are some exotic (and light) metal integrated into that hull.

I'll give you that. I'd feel pretty safe in it.

I'm still trying to figure out how it hovers though. I don't see any bottom thrusters, and from what I've seen in the games, the rotating thrusters on the side never point down. If someone can explain this to me, I'll be happy to listen.

I think the Pelican produces much more thrust than we think it does. We might be overlooking something.

(Oh good lord this is not a bump)

I'm not sure how she stays stable during stationary lift, but I've heard techs discuss the lifting body principal during forward flight and re-entry.

I would assume it's made out of titanium. But the size doesn't have much to do with it being air tight.

Talking about Sweden is an ultrabannable offense.

Too bad being completely and utterly wrong isn't a bannable offense.

TBH for an aircraft that large I would have to say it has some sort of fusion coil reactor for power.

I mean, the UNSC has developed fusion reactors that you can put in a backpack, putting one in a Pelican wouldn't be so infeasible for them.

Well, I'd assume most of the UNSC's combat vehicles have power supplies that last indefinitely or at least for a very long time.

Virtually unlimited fuel is the wave of the future!

Well it's confirmed that the Mongoose and Warthogs, and most cars and trucks, run on hydrogen fuel cells.

I wonder what the Scorpion's effective range is?

High fuel efficiency would be quite the boon for a tank battalion.

Honestly, by today's standards, the Scorpion isn't a good tank.

Honestly, I've heard the complaints. But when has the UNSC ever had a leg up on the bad guys? You make due with what you have.

And I can guarantee that whatever is being shot with that 90 mike mike is going to be a rapidly expanding cloud of metal composite or flesh anyway.

Funny though how 90mm HEAT would do absolutely nothing to any modern IRL tank except scorch the paint.

An Abrams can kill a Scorpion pretty easily.

Remember, that's for urban fighting on the standardized chassis. The Scorpion can accept dozens of cannon configurations. It's not even our best MBT either. but this is a discussion of aircraft.

Perhaps on the Flood's Armor Thread night?
