Subject: Why are so many Americans so addicted to weapons?

Questions lead to learning, learning leads to kowledge, knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to peace.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

Well, I'm American, and I'm not obsessed with them. RACIST. jk

OP, many people have guns simply because it's apart of the culture. Part of the reason is because we are supposed to have guns so we can overthrow a tyrannical government (say, the president or congress tried to take ABSOLUTE power). It's a part of American History and Cultural, something that might be hard to understand if you're not from here. Plus, they make big boom boom. :3

ITT: we post stupid generalizations.

Everyone from England drinks tea, and everyone from Scotland loves hagus.

Everyone from America is extremely unhelpful and would rather attack something indirectly over telling someone the problem with their post.

Forunately that's not true, as people above actually decided to be less stupid.

UBUTTMADBRO???

Haha no, but I admit I chuckled when a read that.

I thought I'd put a new spin on it.

good sport OP

Why do Americans take so much pride in their, and their country's, ability to kill things?

EDIT: made it less generalising.
How is that less generalistic?

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

I'm not addicted.

I can stop drinking them whenever I want.

I am an American, and I am not addicted to weapons.

Methinks OP doth generalize too much.
Your first sentence doesn't really contradict the OP. Obviously he doesn't think *all* Americans are addicted to weapons, he's just stating a tendency he thinks exits: Americans, on the whole, are relatively enamored with guns and defense. Sure, he'd be better off citing specific articles and studies, but that's more of an issue of content than of over-generalization.

The title

I make a living of selling my body, and I don't mean sex.

Guns are fine with me. I just don't feel very comfortable around them when they're loaded.

Most of the people who do have weapons are those who hunt for game or for self-defense should it become necessary.

I log on the Flood at Late night American time and all I see is "weaponryz luk so cool!" This, added with recent events in guns, got me thinking:
Why do Americans take so much pride in their, and their country's, ability to kill things?

EDIT: made it less generalising.

America's citizens take pride in having the ability to fend for themselves against all the other crazy ass Nations should our Government (which is possible) fail us.

Addicted? Hardly, most armed citizens are responsible people that would only use a firearm to defend the life of another or to protect their own liberty.

One does not simply stop playing Minecraft! Or Fallout!

The American desire for firearms roots back to the origin of the country, with the fact that guns were viewed as symbols of freedom and survival, as owning one before the USA's foundation was illegal in many places, as well as how vital a gun could be to get food from hunting. That feeling towards firearms has been passed down through generations to modern USA, where some people still rely on guns for putting food on the table and making a living.

This was a wild guess from a born and raised American who has yet to own a gun; don't take this as fact. Plus, guns are kewl.

Really? A gun thread that mentions recent shootings, AGAIN!? Alright, for starters, not all Americans like the idea of having guns, in fact many abhor it. Secondly, I don't believe those that do take pride, take pride in the fact that they own a gun(although some may take pride in modifying or working on one) or their "ability to kill people", they take pride in the fact that they have a right to bear arms. Thirdly, I don't understand what the recent shootings have to do with people enjoying shooting targets or talking about their guns. Guns will always be very present in the U.S. whether they're made legal or not, due to a multitude of reasons, so people that own them may as well enjoy them within reason(whether that means hunting, target shooting, or simply talking about them).

Now, if you're talking about people that know nothing of guns and get on talking about how kewl they are, that's most likely children and trolls, enough said. If by "their country's ability to kill" you mean the U.S. military, that's people either being patriotic(not in a good way), which not just Americans do, or once again, children(My dad can beat up your dad. Oh yeah? Well my country can blow up your country), or in some cases, it's just people genuinely having a serious conversation about the military, as it interests them.

Also, dafuq you mean by "addicted"? I think the word you're looking for is obsessed, which most people aren't.

Very well said, not to mention without guns we'd still be ruled by England. Not that it's so much different today...

What relevance is magazine size when you could just have multiple magazines? I never use my firearms for hunting, only for protecting lives.
