I've been lifting weights for a couple of years now and I have noticed my biceps are getting stretchmarks... Is there anything I can do to get rid of them? I have heard peanut-butter works, I've just been hesitant to try it. I've tried lotions that don't do anything. Could tanning work?

Any help is appreciated!

Nope, you're stuck with them forever. I have a ton on my back from sit-ups.

That's not very uplifting! :(

My dad used to have them as a teen but you can't see them anymore, I just don't want to wait twenty years... Also, I know there is laser surgeries, I just wouldn't be willing to dish out that kind of money.

Freaking genius. I got some on my hip from growing too much in a short time period, I have never been overweight.

I've only been lifting for half a year but I've been getting stretch marks myself in some places too. Cocoa butter works wonders, or bio-oil.

They make ointments that are usually sold to mothers, but I guess the trick is to use them every day for a while...but on a side note, if your biceps have stretch marks, that is good...why remove them?

What are these first person words you speak of?

Stretch marks aren't just cosmetic "marks", they're scars. For all intents and purposes, there's nothing you can do. They naturally fade to a silvery-white color and become less noticeable. You can *try* stretch mark creams that contain cocoa butter/vitamin E/collagen/whatever, and maybe you'll get lucky: they might decrease the appearance. But probably not. You can try keeping your skin "elastic" and hydrated - use lotion and drink water - to make yourself less prone to stretch marks. But rapid weight loss/gain, weightlifting, pregnancy, you will get stretch marks and there's nothing you can do. Lifters consider them to be battle scars; you should do the same.

Do you even lift?

I very much doubt you could do anything.

I got them from growing to quick. My lower back was covered in them, looked like I got whipped, but after I stopped at 6'4" they have started to fade but are still there. They are just unfortunately a side effect of growing.

Thank you for the actual USEFUL answer. I just have two quick questions for you since you know what you're talking about. I don't want to use Google because it has constantly told me Cocoa Butter works but I tried it for months with no use. So, real quick, do you think tanning a lot could hide the a lot more? I have read that stretch marks actually reflect more sun than normal skin and can actually make the stretchmarks pop out more, but other people have said tanning gets rid of them completely. Also, do you know if laser surgeries are guaranteed to work, and about how much they can be?

Did you know that 93% of all statistics on the internet are made up on the spot, and that 68% of readers believe them?

I have them all over my sides and stomach. Some on my inner arms too. They never really go away but may become less noticeable over time. Creams and cocoa butter do help though.

Treatments for stretch marks are usually more harmful - for you or your wallet - than just leaving the marks alone to fade. As far as I know, stretch marks don't tan like the rest of your skin, so they would pop out even more. I think the risk of sunburns and more serious effects is higher with stretch marks (since it's technically scar tissue). Laser surgeries are guaranteed to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, but they're very expensive.

I know this isn't the answer you want to hear (er, read), but you'll have to learn to wear your stretch marks and let them slowly fade over time. There's no treatment guaranteed to work-- though they're all guaranteed to have you spend money. And the truth is that nobody really cares. People get them from gaining or losing weight; you got yours because you gained muscle mass. So wear them with pride.
