Subject: The Gold Septagon needs to go.

Wake me, when you need me.

I can't be the only one that enters a thread just because it has a yellow Septagon next to it, right? Disregard any post quality, *scroll scroll scroll* until I see the wall of gold text gleaming upon my face. Do you know why this is a bad thing? Well, you see, once a thread has been graced by the presence of a Bungie drone, any and all members of the community tend to turn their focus towards the gold text rather than staying on topic.

Instances where you'll notice this is when members quote a Bungie employee just to quote someone of a higher presence. This, is, and should be, equal to spam. And it should be treated as such. A solid majority of the time when an Employee posts in threads, it's not even of quality. I'd possibly say it's on par with your average Heroic member.

My final proposal is that we replace the golden Septagon with something a little less flamboyant and more suitable. Something that won't make me feel like a dog chasing cars. This is the part where I call upon the community. It's your job to come up with better ideas to replace the Septagon with. Heck, even a simpler color change will do. I digress, I'll leave my ideas for later and I'll simply let the community discuss this.

It's more to indicate that the employee might have solved a problem, not to get everyone to reply pointlessly to them. No matter what it's changed to people will still reply to them even when they have nothing to add.

when members quote a Bungie employee just to quote someone of a higher presence

Every thread with a reply from either a bungie mod or a forum ninja automaticly turns into a quote the mod fest.

Being quoted by ninja's or higher automaticly increases e-peen level above 100% stability.

What else is new, OP?

I agree. Even if you remove the symbol from the outside, as soon as members see the post on the inside it's still going to be quoted, so I really can't see what it would help.

Plus, with the current status, what if it's Destiny or Bungie.next info, and we don't have our golden Septagon beacon to guide us in? Food for thought I guess :P

GOAT

.. not really.

Maybe a couple people will quote the employee, but if there's legitimate discussion to be had, people will continue to post as they were before.

But if I quote the mod, maybe he'll take notice of me and I'll become a mod myself!!

I'd have to make my comment as witty and funny as possible though...and I must always stride by his side and joust my arguments as the white knight I am.

Unsuccessfully trying to bring science and reason to The Flood...

No I like it. It is nice to know that Bungie employees still take an active role in the forums, instead of just forgetting about us when the next game comes out.

Also, a thread with the Gold Septagon next to it is usually a thread of some value, as it 'inspired' the employee to actually post a reply. Whether it be a particular issue that might help me out, or something of general interest.

I think it should stay. (Maybe a poll would have been useful in this thread).

I never got the obsession with the gold septagon. I feel like I'm one of the few that honestly don't care if employees post or not - they are, after all, pretty much regular members when posting anyway.

In my opinion they are fine and I do not have a problem with this, But again thats just me.

I usually get into a thread before a employee anyway and yeah I do go in after they post, but I tend to keep the discussion going even if I do quote them for a reference or something.

Also it lets us know that a employee is on the site and has graced us with his presence haha

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

I agree to an extent. I agree that I'll go in the thread for the simple fact there has been an employee who posted in it. I usually just want to know what he or she said. If it is a quality thread however I will go back to the OP (if I haven't already posted in said thread) and will read it over and perhaps reply.

It doesn't need to go. I don't think it is a thread killer, if anything it's a thread booster. Yeah, you may get shallow replies, but it may draw the attention of someone who will post a quality reply.

Key

Not even close to true. Show me evidence of this recently with more than one employee and maybe your OP will have some credibility.

You couldn't be any more right.

It's quite annoying when you make a fantastic post which completely answers the question or the topic that OP has posted. But then a ninja makes a joke and everyone feels the need to quote them instead of reading your post.

A cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal.

And from FOX, two phantoms were born.

I hate it too.

Though I am guilty of clicking on a thread just to see what they posted.

@spawn031

"So much of what we do is ephemeral and quickly forgotten, even by ourselves, so it's gratifying to have something you have done linger in people's memories." John Williams

I respectfully disagree.

The Golden Septagon is extremely helpful when looking for "official" information. The Bungie Webteam has said they train people for using gold text. When there is high activity, I'm talking a couple months before a game release, without threads turing into septagons, you wouldn't have any idea where this information is for the common user (anyone that's been daily active throughout the darkness, isn't the average user).

There are examples of them simply being funny:

- Pimpsville is wrong
- Does anyone else?

With countless other examples. But the vast majority of these are for official information. There are more readers than posters on bungie.net on any given day, and without the gold septagon, many would be clueless on what the correct answer is.

Here's a few examples on what I'm talking about:

- So, how many people make up the webteam?
- @Bungie gets the OG on Twitter
- Vote for your favorite submission to the Bungie Book Club! (Official poll? Yup)

And especially for days like Bungie Day, having the Gold Septagon just makes everything much more clear when there is an official answer. People that quote storm, are in the minority, it's hardly an issue.

oh excuuuuse me mr "legendary", i didn't know that my posts are of no quality since i'm a "heroic".

You know what would be awesome and i immagine it would bring more attention to this thread...

if a Bungie employee came in here, demoted your highness to "heroic" and said "you've just been demoted, now we're even"

and than everyone should automatically forget about this thread and topic because it would no longer be of quality eh ?

I'm sure Bungie.next isn't going to be what I'm envisioning, but I'll throw this idea out there. What if Bungie.next wasn't just clicking on forums and threads within them?

It would be awesome if there was a search that could sort and filter content. I went into detail with this idea in the past, but this would resolve the issue of content being missed. You could select how many posts you want to see per page. You could select which forums should be included in the search. There would be a way to search for posts that have quoted a certain user. There would even be a search to see only posts by Bungie employees with links to view the full threads.
