Subject: Why do they always say, "Get a PC"?

We work in the dark to serve the light.

What sense does that make? If someone were to switch to a decent gaming PC, which costs quite a bit, if I understand correctly, then they would have to replace their entire collection of games, which again, costs quite a bit to do legally. Also, if they have a functional console that they're happy with, why get a PC? Sure, there's mod support, and the graphics tend to be better, but consoles are still playable, ancient tech aside.

So please, enlighten me as to why getting a PC is a logical spending decision, because I'm not seeing it.

You save a lot of money in the long haul as the games on PC are cheaper. There is a much larger variety of games actually larger is to small of a word but anyway...Mods improve games life times exponentially and the graphics are freaking amazing.

Buying an 800$ PC that can play any modern game at rather high settings is a much better deal than buying the console and PC separately. Especially considering you won't have to pay 60$ a year for Xbox LIVE.

Proud Spartan II, COG soldier, Hero of time, and crowbar wielding scientist.

Because of all the performance bonuses for playing games, ease of buying games off steam, downloading and making mods or games, and it's still a -blam!- computer, which means it can do everything a computer can do.

Probably just to annoy you. It is the internet, after all.

Also, do you realize what you've started, op?

Games like Garry's mod and Minecraft have a longer lifespan than a lot of consoles, and a gaming PC can be used to do a lot more than just game.

Lifespan of a game would actually be more dependent on the player than the console.

I could pop in an old N64 game or even an SNES game and still have a blast.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

Both of those games bore me, lifespan depends on the player.

No you don't, because PC life cycles are about half that of consoles.

Except that you would normally be replacing your PC at that time anyway. With a gaming PC, you could just swap the CPU and the video card and you're good to go.

Yeah...no.

A PC desktop will last way way way longer than a console sorry.

That was some great facts you've used there.
Try playing BF3 on a 7year old pc that doesn't cost at least 3x the amount a console did

I can play Battlefield 3 on my 3 year old Sony Laptop and it is no where near as good as my new desktop that only cost me 900$

I can replace seperate parts and keep my PC going while every 5 years or so you will need to buy a new 300-400 dollar console and sometimes those will break. So in theory if you buy another console (we will say it broke once) thats already 600$! Plus your games cost way more than mine at 60$ brand new and the absurd prices of used games.

So in theory i am spending way less than you.

Try again soon!

It's the next level up from the casual gaming experience that consoles provide. You get better performance across the board, and you can mod and do other stuff. Also, Steam. But building and maintaining your computer isn't as convenient as shelling out the cash for a console and plunking it down in front of your TV, so it's up to you.

Oh right yeah my console that hasn't broke.
I like how you have to double the price of my device to "win". Lovely snobbish end phrase by the way, shame your whole argument depends and me fully replacing my console instead of, you know, repairing it?
And by the way it hasn't broken. What if your PC breaks?

Gimme 20 taters!

you can build a great gaming PC for about $500 and when you consider the costs of console gaming, An HD TV, controllers, etc. It can add up to cost more than PC gaming

Depends what breaks.

And yeah sorry that was a bit snobby at the end...i am feeling a bit confrontational today. The only reason i doubled cost was i was talking about the new xbox coming out that if you were a console player you would most likely buy. Obviously the xbox 360 is a pretty cheap console now if you want the basic one.

I agree, and no offence taken. I still think the PC is a better console because, as you said, Steam sales and modding but I think you do end up paying for that added bonus.

Most people probably already have a TV to use. And if we're just looking at single-player gaming, the one controller you get with the console is all you need. Similar to the TV and controller thing, a $500 tower is great, but you'll still need a monitor, keyboard+mouse, and OS. Over time, I guess you could save money by not having to pay for XBL, lol, and games are cheaper.

The Flood is just this awesome :D

800$ is chump change for a guy with a job if they saved up for a couple months. Also, games are constantly on sale on Steam, so it would cost a lot less to replace your library. Besides, you don't HAVE to replace your library, there's a ton of indie games available on PC for 10-30 bucks.
