I don't want to buy a album that's 3x the size of the mp3 version if I can't tell / hear the difference.

depends, what kind of headphones are you using?

Depends on how good you headphones are. If you have $50+ Over ears, then yes, it will sound amazing. I only download FLAC of music I really like though, I keep 320 for iTunes and the vast majority.

Luv. We all can has it. Togethr.

If you have quality headphones or speakers then yes, you will eventually be able to tell the difference. If yr listening through earbuds or inbuilt speakers don't bother.

I can't really tell the difference, but some people say that's just because my equipment isn't good enough.

You really need a really high end system to really see the benefit of FLAC over MP3. Just go for MP3 if you're unsure since it'll still be great quality.

I have these but I usually don't use them anymore since I don't take them in public and when I'm in my car I use my car speakers of course.

Yeah... I'm that cool.
Robot Academy. Kinda sorta the best group on here.

Depends on your equipment. I've got pretty high-end headphones and a library of FLAC songs, but some of my 320kbs MP3 ones sound just as nice.

I'm good with 320, I don't have that much space on my phone.

No. People who say there is a difference are liars and/or tech snobs.

Modern audio/video compression is extremely good.

The Flood's resident metalhead.

Not really, I would just buy the CD if I wanted better quality than 320 anyways.

Don't punch a British kid, the queen'll come after you.

If you have good sound equipment or want a great archiving format then FLAC is good.

You, I don't like you.

No, the world doesn't need more audiophiles.

  • 01.05.2013 1:38 PM PDT

So most phones or mobile players that you might have typically don't support FLAC. There are some FLAC players for Android, but the size of the audio files are generally prohibitive for flash based phones with somewhat limited storage.

On your local PC you'll need a decent headset, the headset you linked should be fairly good.

Really it all boils down to personal preference. Download some FLAC music and some 320 mp3s. Figure out if you can tell the difference, or if the difference matters to you. Then go with whichever you like.

I have these as well, but with the coil chord, and they sound amazing. I can hear a lot of compression on my old mp3s, but its not so bad with 320 mp3s. Some music is better for mp3 than others though.

CDs and FLAC are what you need for the best listening experience.
