Subject: Halo 4 concept art reveals alternate Didact fight

Do you like Green Eggs and Ham???

I still would have preferred a semi-boss battle like with Guilty Spark.

If this is official, it confirms once and for all the Didact's alive. He falls into the slipstream abyss, and probably ends up somewhere else.

Where is the real question.
Dude we thought guilty spark was dead and he was the boss at the end of Halo 3.

Didn't 343 say they took inspiration from CE? So guess who will be gone for most of Halo 5 and will come back stronger at Halo 6.

Wasn't Maelstrom like a planet or something in Mass Effect?
Haestrom, yes.

Ah, right, my mistake.

Well, where ever the Prometheans are manufactured from the energy gathered from the Composer. I'm guessing Requiem, but that would be too cliche to have the Didact return there.
They're transported to the composer. Which is the portal between digital and real worlds. It's safe to say we will see both Cortana and The Didact in future Halo's, because I would imagine Cheif would want nothing else but to get Cortana back which can be achieved through the Composer.

But the Composer was destroyed.
Also, the Didact is on Requiem, why else would Jul Mdama or whatever be called the Didact's Hand? They must have some communication.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Yeah, that's pretty much exactly the same as what happened.

Is this from the art book or just stuff online? I put the book on my Xmas list and didn't get it. Fingers crossed, I get it for my birthday in just over a week.

What I really want is to encounter Medicant Bias in Halo 5. I really hope 343 just doesn't toss away the Halo 3 terminals.

Didact's Hand is his title, the reason Jul went to Requiem after reactivating the portal on Kelekos was to seek out the Didact, as Jul learned that he hated humanity, and Jul himself wanted vengeance after Port Stanley destroyed the ship his wife and best friend were on.

Well, they really did leave Halo 4 open without really any clear direction of where the game would go.... so... it's possible.

Mendicant Bias is dead. They clearly haven't tossed away the Halo 3 Terminals, since it's Mendicant who sends John to Requiem in the first place - as he reveals in the final Terminal.

Not to mention that Halo 3's Terminals form the basis for much of the Forerunner Saga and development of the Forerunners as a race based off the dialogue between the Didact and Librarian.

He showed up in Primordium, so I guess maybe he has some relevance going forward. There was some sweet, insanely surreal imagery with his appearance, but maybe he was ultimately just there to be the Timeless One's Flooding buddy.

As for where he is now, I'd guess on the broken remains of the Lesser Ark, where he was pretty much made whole again during Halo 3 before guiding John to Requiem, where the ever-accommodating Didact was having a little nap. Genius.

All I know is that Silentium has a lot to explain. Specifically why Didact loses his -blam!- and all of a sudden wants to exterminate humanity. His hatred was never that great in the books. And him having to meditate for 100,000 years over what has happened isn't a justifiable answer in my opinion. What he's doing goes against the principles of the mantle, but then again, so does the firing of the Halo rings...maybe I'm looking for a complex explanation for it that just doesn't exist.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

Honestly, I have a hard time keeping track of the Forerunner history these days. Like... what's up with the Didact in Primordium? What's Mendicant Bias up to?

I know the answers, but they're hard to remember, just like the sequence of events.

I can't remember either, which is why I'm re-reading Crpytum and Primordium before Silentium comes out.

You know that this was all explained in Halo 4 and the Terminals, right? Allow me to quote things for you:

- "The [humans] must be sent home and taught to stand with the galaxy, rather than rail against us and take what they desire. the Mantle shelters all."

- "The humans' actions threatened the galaxy, yet we have treated them as the Mantle requires. Their punishment was just."

- "They are closer now to the animals they behaved as."

- "The humans were not meant to protect others. The Mantle of Responsibility for all things is ours, and ours alone."

- "My finest opponent, the Mantle accepts all who live fiercely, who defend their young, who build and struggle and grow, and even those who dominate - as humans have dominated; cruelly, without wisdom."

- "They took the Mantle of Responsibility upon themselves, and in so doing, they brought the sickness to our shores."

- Faber: "So you agree that Halos are our only solution."

Librarian: "I do."

Faber: "And your husband?"

Librarian: "My husband has a different opinion on what steps to take against the Flood."

- "Didact, if the Composer is our final hope to defeat the Flood, no Promethean would resist."

- "Humans, your kind brought the Flood to our shores. Now you will aid in ending its threat."

- "Your pets have a nobler purpose ahead of them."

- "Humanity's loss of biological form will serve as final payment for their crimes."

- "We squander eons in the darkness while they seize our triumphs for their own! The Mantle of Responsibility for all things belongs to Forerunners alone."

There is plenty of exposition on the Didact's motives and 'hatred' of humanity in the Terminals, his transformation from providing humanity with the chance to live but in a degraded form, treating them "as the Mantle requires", to growing desperate in his need to defeat the Flood. Now let's move to the Librarian's dialogue in the campaign when she speaks to John and see how this connects.

- "Weakened from our conflict, we were no match for the Parasite which pursued you."

- "The Forerunners made plans for a final great Journey, but the Didact refused to yield our Mantle of responsibility."

- "Such moral concerns faded from the Didact's attention."

- "The Composer would grant the Didact his solution and his revenge."

This shows a clear transformation of character. He grew obsessed with the idea that the Composer was the solution, which is also mentioned in Silentium's official description - that he is in a conflict with his wife over the keys to a solution. He believes he is fulfilling the requirements of the Mantle by composing humanity, their "final payment" for what they did to the Forerunners.

Anyone else think Silentium's original cover is far superior to the final one?

"The Forerunners made plans for a final great Journey, but the Didact refused to yield our Mantle of responsibility."

At first, I thought this was the firing of the Halo array. But the blurb of Silentium states that Bornstellar-Didact took off after firing the array to find the Precursors beyond the galactic rim, and did so with some other Forerunners.

Would the Ur-Didact have been all lolno we must stay an fite teh fludz?

Guess we'll find out in Silentium.
