We all know that nobody's aloud to drill there (and for good reasons) but who knows what will happen when people are desperate?

I have no idea what to expect.

What about you, Flood?

I like how your sub box is full of science and political videos but your recommendations are full of anime girls kissing each other.

Just Zoid being Zoid ^_^

What if we find Megatron?

If they drill there.
Thats the point i start to care.

Yes and a cod game will be made about it.

"New Objective! Protect the American oil drillers from the incoming attacks!"

Es ist Zeit für einige Gefahr-pay

That is way too far in the future to make even a remotely accurate guess.

I'm sure you're right. There won't be any accurate ideas.

However, the time will probably be here before the end of the centuary.

Maybe, but who knows what the political landscape will be or if alternative means of energy will be available?

War seems like a reasonable assumption, but between who? and to what extent?

  • 01.05.2013 3:14 PM PDT

Countries such as Canada, Russia and Iceland are already arguing over territorial rights to the Antarctic, justifying ownership via the connecting of their 'continental shelf' to the continent. Many states have made territorial claims, but none have been completely recognised by an international body of influence.

Yes, there is bound to be oil under Antarctica. However, the cost of extracting it from under all that ice would be exceptional - which is why it's not being done right now.

Not sure why you're on about war, though.

Oh yes of course they will. I think it will probably be America because they're the biggest consumer of oil (like a 1/3 of all oil used is in America I think) and Russia has the worlds biggest oil refinery so can guarantee its supplies.
Also I don't see China graduating from Coal anytime soon, and the EU seems to actually care about going green, probably because it relies on outsourced oil.

Agreed.

I can't even start to think of who it would be between.

You sure that's not claims to the Arctic rather than Antarctic?

  • 01.05.2013 3:22 PM PDT

It would be too cost prohibitive to drill there, plus no one nation can do or own anything on Antarctica that isn't for scientific purposes, or something like that.

I believe this is the hypothetical situation where the cost is more than reasonable and countries need it bad enough to ignore international treaties.

I think that society is at a point where there are so many alliances that a massive war would be incredibly tricky to co-ordinate.
