...Are you trolling or stupid?
The word trolling is thrown around way to much these days...
I merely have an opinion. I just don't like films that spend more time developing characters than it does blowing them up.Why? If you can't care about protagonists why bother rooting for them? If they're bland and forgettable then I have no reason to like them. Evil villians don't make them worth rooting for. All the action loses it impact if you aren't worried about the characters. Which is why I love The Deer Hunter and Rise of the Spartans. It spent time developing the characters and when they're threatened and dying it has much more impact than if a random guy who was given a label gets killed.
I'm not saying there should be no character development. I'm saying either that needs to happen whilst they're blowing -blam!- up, or not in a boring way.
Anyway, actions speak louder than words. You can still develop a character during a massive shoot out.I've never minded short conversations to establish character traits but one of my favorite scenes in film history is when they develop Doctor Manhattan. Besides what people do when there is no action going on can be interesting and tell you a lot about them. You can develop a character's personality through an action sequence but if you don't have a starting point for the character then it just feels like the firefight is introducing us to them.
