Subject: Being Human and Being a -blam!- Sapien is NOT the Same Thing

Ignore my gamertag. It's actually Dragonzzilla.

One day, we're going to encounter sapient life that isn't our own. One day, we're going to encounter people that aren't like us. One day, we will make contact with beings who evolved somewhere other than on Earth. If I ever live to see that fateful day, I will stop calling -blam!- Sapiens "human".

Being human and being a -blam!- Sapien are two very different things. Just because you're a -blam!- Sapien, doesn't make you human. The word "human" in my mind describes someone utterly selfless, someone who uses his sapience for the highest and noblest cause possible. He who attains altruistism becomes human.

There are over seven billion -blam!- Sapiens living on this planet Earth but not every one of them is "human". Being a -blam!- Sapien is easy; you just have exist to be one, but being human? That's something else entirely. Humanity is a state of being. So back to what I said earlier, I'm sure we're going to meet other sapient species and when we first make contact with them, I'm sure more than a few humans will already be among their number.

So ask yourself. What does it mean, to you, to be... human?

I like to play Reach for fun. I hate MLG, campers, armor lock, and team killers because they ruin that fun. Deal with it.

That's like saying being an alligator and being a reptile aren't the same thing.

A cornered fox is more dangerous than a jackal.

And from FOX, two phantoms were born.

I am a machine.

Humans are... brittle.

So are you saying we're going to meet retarded cabbage patch aliens that just sit around all day?

Life is a journey, if you spend all of it with your nose in your map, you may miss some of the best parts.

A human is a -blam!--sapien.

I've never heard of a Blamsapien.

What if I told you...

*scoots in closer*

I hate you

You are A human.

You are human.

There's a difference (if you get into the whole "state of being" thing)

This is an incredible step forward to being able to cure Downss sybndonre mn humans bineg.s

They won't be human. They'll be people, but they won't be human. Furthermore, we'll never encounter an alien species directly. Even establishing communication with one would be pretty damn difficult.

Ew, my username. :C

I came up with it when I was 10.

Why is the word -blam!- censored? It's not a bad word, it's a Latin prefix, meaning "the same".

Screw you, Bungie.

I've got a fan!

You're getting your terms mixed up.

Hom_-sapien-sapien is the scientific name for the human species.

Sapient means the organism is capable of complex thought and has "awareness".

By our taxonomy, humans are hom_-sapien-sapien. If aliens ever visit, we'll assign them a name for our own purpose, such as non-gaia-sapien or something else like that.

That's fine.

In a lot of other people's minds, "human" means "Homo sapien." (Don't capitalize the species name)

That's like saying being an alligator and being a reptile aren't the same thing.
Bad simile. They clearly are not the same. All alligators are reptiles. All reptiles are not necessarily alligators.

The better simile would be, "that's like saying that a dog and a canis lupis familiaris are not the same thing."

I think what OP means is "humane," not "human." "Human" is a scientific state of being; you either are or you are not. It's not subjective based on your acts.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

A real human being.

And a real hero.

Well that's cool, but it's factually incorrect, which is okay since it's only in your mind.

By your definition there are probably less than a million humans on this planet if that. Not to mention your definition doesn't mean anything honestly.

A human is a HomoSapien, all that "crap" you were talking about is in regards to the morals and ethics of man. Which in all honesty might not even mean anything at the end of the day.

You do know that humans ARE in fact H*mo Sapiens?

H*mo Sapiens literally means 'Wise Man.'
