Subject: Why does Canada have a Internet Bandwidth limit but USA does not?

If you didn't know already about the fixed internet bandwidth limit on Canadian residents. It means every Canada household has a certain bandwidth limit depending on their internet package. If you want more then you must get a more expensive internet package. It's retarded. For example, let's say you have an average internet package that offers 10 mpbs, well you would have like a 65 GB bandwidth per month that you can't go over. If you do go over, you must be a fee of $2/per GB for each GB you go over.

I don't mind really as I don't hardcore download nor watch HD videos. However, I do have to keep a eye on the bandwidth often. But the real question is ,why does Canada have to suffer while USA residents get UNLIMITED bandwidth? It doesn't even make any sense. There's more people in USA then in Canada. So if anything, USA should get a bandwidth limit.

so wtf?

Unlimited bandwidth exists, it's just rare. The market is basically semi-monopolized between Bell and Rogers. There's competition, but the other guys are so small and pathetic compared to the big two that they're pretty much irrelevant.

It's all about money, yet again.

I don't have a bandwidth limit.

Bandwidth limits don't even make sense to me. It's not like it's a non-renewable resource or even tangible for that matter. Unless Canada has very -blam!- infrastructure I don't really get it.

It's a'me, Sesto

I don't have one, and I live in Canada.

However, the only reason we have it is because we made a deal with Bell before Bandwidth caps were common, and Bell has never made us change it.

I'm Canadian and I'm pretty sure that I don't have a limit, my family streams, and downloads alot things. She's not the fastest internet around but it can stream in HD no problem. For $58 a month I aint complaining.

Alternatively, Canada's government should stop being a dick and remove the limit.

It doesn't actually make any sense. It's just them trying to get cash out of you.

100gb allowance a month and have passed it a few times and had to pay for the extra. What would be an average that some of you use per month?

Not a government thing. The companies do it. Just switch to one of the small, no-name companies. They can give you better prices for the same speed and unlimited bandwith. Just find the right one.

Lol, not all canadian internet companies have bandwidth limits. Just the big ones do.

Look up wightman telecom, cheaper than bell, faster than bell, and no limits.
