Yes, I was showing you how general acceptance does not make a wrong right.
And who says speeding isn't wrong? There's a reason set speed limits are in place, exceeding them increases the risk you pose to yourself, and more importantly, others using the roads. This is just one example, there are reasons for the laws in place, just as there are reasons to enforce those laws.

You assume government redistributes wealth, they don't. They consume wealth.

And what did the banks do when the regulation placed on them during the Great Depression was overturned at the turn of the century? Certainly not another depression-

Oh.

Name me one depression caused by the regulation of business. And don't quote the Soviet Union, because Communism is a terrible idea, and I'm not endorsing it at all.

In fact, I'm thinking here, and I just realized the countries that have their governments "consuming" wealth - you know, those Nordic countries - are actually doing pretty well. Go figure.

I disagree with this. People who are that dumb and disrespectful should be taken away, even if for a couple hours.

If you would actually make a point I would counter it, but don't toss out a whole idea and expect me to tackle the entire thing at once, I'm not going to take a game forum that seriously in this regard.

I might use that in the future, because it seems people like this guy invariably act in the same manner. Exaggerated claims about police and government out to get the working man and not a shred of evidence to back their argument

I don't know, you're double-posting in order to call multiple people stupid and hail your radical, oversimplified political views as the second coming.

I made a pretty specific example about how the deregulation of the banks led to the crash of an entire economy in less than ten years. How about responding to that one? Or is that a huge idea? Can't tackle it?

I guess you can't read the thread then. We've already mentioned the PATRIOT Act, NDAA and drug laws. Here's a new one, income tax which is theft. I guess locking someone up without trial, charge or due process forever is alright with you? How about a president that murders? Americans even!

Look at our current system, the Federal Reserve, it has only helped collapse our monetary system.

The Federal Reserve has been around since the early 20th century. It is in no way related to the depressions. We had depressions before then, and depressions after then, and they've always been about the same thing: The stupid banks greedily give out loans (generally, for land) to people who can't afford it in an economic bubble, and then that bubble bursts and suddenly you've got a bunch of people with loans they can't pay back, and the banks aren't getting paid back, and they're out of money, and they close, and then you've got a nice -blam!-storm.

This happened with the expansion after the civil war. This happened with the economic boom after World War I. This happened with the housing bubble in the 2000's.

The Federal Reserve is essentially the poor man's Bank of the US, and you know what happened under that terrible government entity? We had a (relatively) stable dollar. That said, the dollar will always decrease in value because of the idea of perpetual debt, which has literally been in practice since the inception of the Constitution.

Learn to history.

Somebody else already covered the first three. Tax helps to pay for all those little state run conveniences you take for granted. Oh, but of course, under your libertarian ideals you'd just pay some private company to maintain things like municipal water, roads, schools ect. But isn't that the same as paying tax to the government? You tell me

As opposed to what we have now? Yes, sure, after the banks made the stupid mistake we would be hit hard for a while, but we would be FORCED to spend within our means instead of making the situation far more dire like we are now and DESTROYING the economy rather than just harming it.

1. I'm not disputing PATRIOT, NDAA, and drug laws. I'm actually with you there. I'm talking about Libertarianism, and your outrageous claims, which leads me to
2. No, no it's not. The government was ordained by the people, and it provides the government services the people voted for, directly and indirectly, via our representative government. This government needs money, and under its protections and services, you are paying what you owe as a citizen. Most people are in favor of these taxes (present company excepted).

You're not providing evidence. You're making outrageous claims and going PROVE ME WRONG. That's not how it works.

Not at all the same, because you're FORCING someone to pay for a product they may not want. That is theft. PERIOD. There was a time when we thought government HAD to make shoes. Who else is going to make shoes for everyone? And is it any wonder that everything government is in control of is a broke joke and failing? Amtrak, social security, education, THE MAIL! While the private industry thrives doing the same thing... You are a fool that has become complacent with a nanny state.

I mentioned the two elderly women who were ARRESTED under the Patriot Act, guess what? The case was withdrawn by the F.B.I. because the judge of the case said he was about to rule the PATRIOT Act UNCONSTITUTIONAL! And they don't need to PROVE you are a terrorist.

Look up Anwar Al-Alaki sometime. He was an American citizen Barrack signed an executive order to have murdered.

Except they don't have that authority. The Constitution is all about LIMITING the power of government. It never intended for the government to rob us, which is exactly what income tax is. Taking money you had literally no process in. The Constitution was very clear on how the government could make money; Charging fees for services(mail), selling federal land (They own 88% of Nevada) and charging taxes on imports from overseas. And honestly, I wouldn't be against a sales tax. However, taxing income is highly disgusting and tyrannical. We fought a revolution at a time when taxes were only 4%!

No one is FORCED to spend within their means. The banks will just write off another check for entitled Americans in order to make a quick buck by repossessing what other assets they have. Just like they've always done. The distribution of wealth will continue to become more and more disproportionate and these people will have less and less choice for what they can do. Dirt poor immigrants took loans from these banks. You think Americans who are used to lots of things will stop taking loans when they're dirt poor? Hell, they were already dirt poor, and were taking loans they could never pay off.

Capitalism, in its purest form, is about profit. A competition for profit with no rules is horrifically destructive. I can't see how anyone is against the regulation of these banks.

You made a jump from 1833 to 2013 there. The dollar stopped being (relatively) stable as soon as Andrew Jackson killed the bank of the U.S. in his second term. Within 4 years, the economic system was in turmoil, as private banks with no regulation gave out money excessively. This mixed with a boom and the increase in the prices of many commodities (land, cotton, etc.) eventually led to the Panic of 1837.

Apologies. I meant pre-civil war earlier.

How exactly did I prove myself wrong? Inflation is natural. It will always be natural. It was happening with a national bank, and it was happening without a national bank. In fact, it was happening much faster without a national bank.

I'm truly sorry. After all, I was arguing from your point of view: That the constitution is a wonderful document handed down by God himself. I forgot that's actually pretty stupid, seeing as it was made in 1781, when things like a global economy, free thought, general public education, industry, etc. were pipe dreams at best. Things are different, and they're going to change, hence your gods' foresight to allow constitutional amendments.

lol sales tax. The flat tax that hurts the rich none and takes a much larger percentage of the poor's money. You know what flat taxes are called? Regressive taxes. They are literally classified as regressive, and your black and white thinking is widespread enough to support it. "Well they bought it; it's fair for them to pay the same percentage to the government. It's equal!" No it's not, not when you're making less than 400 dollars a month and every dollar in sales tax is a dollar taken away from the support of your children. Flat taxes are terrible.

Oh, oh, I'm sorry, a service you didn't want? Oops, that's part of the government. You're not going to use every part of it. What if I didn't use the mail in 1781? The taxes were ROBBING me. I wasn't sending any mail; why should I pay for someone else's mail service?

You're a citizen of a representative government, and like I said, your government which your peers voted for passed the amendment for income tax. Sorry, not theft. The government which is by the people agreed to take that money. That means the people agreed to give that money. You didn't? Too bad. You're a minority, so you lose. (good day sir!)

Yeah, we fought a revolution when taxes were only 4%! Because the upper classes literally lied to the citizens to get them active? The Boston Tea Party? Protesting taxes that actually made tea CHEAPER for the Americans; just not their businessmen.

Edit: He linked someone from FOX and then went to bed. That sums up this thread. Also, I apparently provided no evidence. Hm, forgot that whole explanation of the Panic of 1837 thing, did he?
